Question:

Why Does My TV Make a Buzzing Noise When I Play DVDs?

When I play DVDs, my TV makes this loud buzzing noise on certain scenes. They disappear when the camera angle switches, then come back if the camera moves back to its original position in the movie. It's really annoying and sometimes is louder than the actor's voices, so it can be very distracting. I have a really old TV that I bought used from a friend for a very, very cheap price. It's really old, so there isn't a place to hook a DVD player up to it directly. Instead, I have to use an RF modulator to connect the cable, DVD player, and TV together. Could this be what is causing the problem? It doesn't happen when I'm just watching TV and I don't think it is the DVD player because I just bought it brand new a couple of months ago. Anyone had similar experiences or know what could be causing this? Thanks!

  1. The buzzing may be caused by the RF modulator.  This is particularly true if the buzzing is occurring on bright images from the DVD player.

The use of shielded A/V cables may help.

Another solution, if the television is old enough, is to turn the AFT (Automatic Fine Tuning) off and manually fine tune the tuning adjustment for the channel that the RF modulator is being used on.

The best solution is to upgrade your television with one that has A/V inputs.
