  1. It doesn't, there were only minor differences in the specification of the encoded audio/video. HD DVD has a built in picture-in-picture specification that BluRay 2.0 is adding in.

    The actual physical media was quite different, BluRay being the larger of the two.

    The good news is that now consumers can be more confident in their choice of HD media since there is one standard. The bad news is older BluRay players might not hold up to the new specification revisions.

    - Consumers now have a clear choice what to buy

    - Studios will now increase output of new titles

    On the bad side

    - BluRay is more expensive to produce than HD-DVD so expect prices to be high for disks.

    - BluRay players are $400 and expected to go up because now consumers do not have a choice.
