Seems like a nice free type of incinerator to me.

  1. good idea.

  2. They can't figure out how to get the road going up the side to stay put.

  3. Offer garbage to the goddess Pele, are you insane!!!!

  4. they are scared when they throw the thrash directly into it. Maybe it will explode!

  5. Somebody has to bring it to the top of volcano. Will you volunteer?

  6. Sounds good to me...

Although then it might make the Volcano Gods mad...

  7. I think the volcano idea is great!  Just ship the excess trash over to the big island, get a few helicopters to fly the garbage over where there is open lava flow, drop the trash, watch the explosions as the trash hits the molten rock.  Charge people $10.00 to watch the fireworks.  Starting nightly at 9:00 p.m.  Win-win.

I think the resultant atmospheric pollution would be nowhere near as bad as all the gasoline burning vehicles and volcanic sulphur fumeroles polluting the air now.  Plus, it's in the middle of the ocean.  Surely the trade winds will push the air eastward to China.  And what has China done for us lately?

  8. Why don't they practice the 3Rs (reduce, recycle, reuse) to create a win/win situation instead?

  9. Incineration needs to be controlled or a lot of hazardous compounds will be released from incomplete combustion.

Dumping waste into a volcano, even if technically possible (and it is not nearly as straightforward as driving a truck up the mountain and tipping the contents onto the lava below), is a bad idea from an environmental standpoint because it will result in the release and spread of a lot of unwanted, frequently carcinogenic or otherwise hazardous compounds.  Many of the nastiest compounds are the ones that resist combustion.  The lava will not completely consume all of the waste.

I'll let someone else address the huge engineering (technical) difficulties in your proposed solution.  There are many.

  10. I think they would still have to ship it to the "big island", which is still a few hundred nautical miles away. plus, you don't want to make Pele mad.

  11. I don't think they have enough catapults...besides, such a thing would wreak havok on tourism.  Can you imagine the stench?

  12. It'll p**s of Madam Pele you dummy!

Can't anger the coolest fire goddess around.  She's got a temper you wouldn't believe and everyone lives downhill from her home.  Besides, she only accepts good food and virgins.

Actually, a buddy of mine lives immediately outside of Volcano Park.  Putting a waste collection facility and incineration complex in that Park would be a disaster to a wonderful natural resource and his town.  That complex would also be hard to hide from all the tourists.

Logistically, most of the highway couldn't handle the added traffic load, the character of the tiny towns on that highway would suffer, and it would wreck the lives of too many people.

On the way (like surrounding the Town of Volcano) is a Tropical Fern forest that's recognized as a World Biological Habitat Resource (or some such protected status).  Not a good thing to have downwind of an industrial sized incinerator.

Lastly, are you including the trash from the other islands?

    Need I say more?

  13. i don't think that the volcano gods would like that...lol

seriously though that's not a bad idea...

i'm waiting for us to start sending our trash to the moon.
