  1. there are psychologists who study this, along with learning in children.

one of the theories is that we had memories before we learned to talk, but after we get used to talking we store memories differently.  which access memories after learning to talk, but does not access memories before that time.

  2. I  don't consider myself to be any spring chicken and I can remember some things from when I was younger ...I don't know in some cases whether it might be memory loss or merely just trying to forget..

  3. well, we don't remember from when we were really young because we need to build up memories in order for have a consciousness to think about the future...

when we are really young, out brain have not developed enough to remember things, although we can learn things.

after a while, a few years we are able to thing for ourselves, imagine, and remember and record what we see and hear :)

  4. why cant we forget all the horibble things when we are younger,

flashes before our eyes like a movie clip, eyes open and awake like a waking nightmare, forced to re-live every excruciating detail.

....................... look at pictures and see if you remember when they are taken ..................... if you mean babies then its like having a dream, you wake up, and remember all of it but 5 minutes later they are erased .......................

  5. like babies?

i guess because our minds werent fully developed.

    not sure

    good question though

  6. the more you get older, the more you will remember from your childhood, only trouble is that i forget what i did last week.

  7. I think everyone is different. My ex-husband doesn't remember anything before the age of seven, which was surprising to me until I learned that a lot of people are like him.

My earliest memory is from before I could talk. Those were traumatic times though in my life (long story) and for as long as I can remember - literally - I've always had this feeling that I HAD to remember it all. I don't know why.

  8. But we do.  Occasionally I have flashes of memory from my very early childhood even babyhood.  Silly things which at the time must have been of considerable importance to me in their own strange way.

For example - I can recall being weighed in hospital as a baby in a nappy - how odd is that?

I can remember looking over my mother's shoulder as she carried me across a busy London street and seeing the heavy rain coming down like stair rods.

    There are other memories.

Why memories like the above have stuck I just do not know.  They are from the pre-talking walking stage of my life.

I can also remember lots of things that happened at my nursery school - back then we were shoved into nursery school from age 2 - war time Britain - so that our mums could get back to work in the factories making the bombs etc.

    Blimey - what a life!

  9. The first thing I remember is getting away from my grandad because of something he did.My mum remembers that day as well for descriptions I gave her and she is sure I was 9 months old.

Then I remember bits and pieces.

    Good question.

  10. I do.

  11. i remember them clearly!
