  1. there was an oil spill in calgary? the war in iraq? various world issues, hurricanes etc

  2. because liberals don't want to drill for oil.....it will "hurt the environment"

  3. Obviously, the companies that control the oil and gas supply (drilling and refining) have a choke hold on this resource and are taking big time advantage of it. They are laughing themselves silly all the way to the bank every week.

The drawback of a purely Capitalistic economy is that everything is competition and working against each other.

It is because of this basic economic division in America that almost completely inhibits long range planning for the betterment of all our citizens.

Offshore drilling might be a short term solution, but we have to get off the oil. I don't see any of our so-called leaders rolling out any plans. This whole energy plan should have been initiated in the `70's when gas started going up in the first place.

  4. One part of it is simple supply and demand.  If demand is stronger than supply, prices go up.

There is a multiplyer on this as the commodoties market makes bets by pre-buying oil, in hopes of selling it later at a higher price.  When supply meets or slightly exceeds demand, people stuck with high price oil commodities will be forced to sell them at a loss, and the price of oil will go down further.

  5. because the big oil companies want more money!!!!!!

  6. Because the d**n government is predicting that by 2015 the gas supply will be low...

So sky rocket it then for goodnes sake!!!

  7. Speculating from wall street. They are buying futures at out- rageous prices and that my friend why gas is going up.
