Question:

Why Edinburgh city is so dirty?

I've been in Edinburgh and I was surprised with the dirt. People drop the litter in the middle of the street and not in the bins. It was impossible to escape from the trash. I never saw a city so dirty as this...

  1. One problem worth mentioning is the wind.  It can be quite strong on the east coast of Scotland, and it has a tendency to whip litter out of the bins and blow it around the street.

But I don't think Edinburgh is substantially worse than other British cities.  The worst I've seen is London.  It's incredibly dirty, not just with litter but with the grime caused by pollution.

  2. bad mannerisms! x x x

  3. theres probably not enough litter pickig men or just too many un-mannered people!

  4. Afraid Embra is not alone Most cities in Scotland sadly suffer from the litter problem  despite on the spot fines now being introduced .

  5. At this time of year {Edinburgh Festival}, it has probably got as much to do with the volume of litter. The numbers of fliers that are being handed out is astronomical and with the numbers of people on the streets, if a small percentage just dump their garbage it really makes it bad very quickly and it's difficult for the refuse collection to keep up {specially since they're set up for the amounts over the rest of the year}.

If I'm honest I've never noticed it being much better or worse than the other British Cities.

  6. This time of year is really busy with tourists and the festival on, so this does contribute to the litter problem. However, Edinburgh is not the only place. Every place has litter problems, people are lazy nowadays and just drop litter everywhere, annoying though it is.

The other thing to consider is it may not be just people dropping litter. They may well have put the rubbish in a bin, but Edinburgh can be pretty windy, so maybe the litter gets blown from the bins?

However, maybe the council needs to have extra manpower on at this time of year to deal with this.

  7. Edinburgh attracts a large number of tourists who bring lots of revenue and unfortunately leave lots of litter, a lot of the tourists are from your Country Lucibuci !

For your education I must inform you that Scotland is also in the United Kingdom as are Wales and Northern Ireland and of course England .

Who did you say were not educated ?.

    Cheers Pete

  8. If I am not mistaken that happens only during July till the end of September because of the festivals and the shows. It's a touristic city you have to know that. People give you always papers trying to advertise their shows. It's getting awful that sometimes you need to throw them in the streets and not in the bins cause first of all the sometimes the roads are blocked by a stream of tourists. The council cannot do anything better. Sometimes rubbish blow from the bin cause there are so many people. The council does a good job but it's focused on the city center only cause this is the main part of the city and there is not enough time to do something for the rest.

Edinburgh is a very clean city if you visit it another time. I just got back and I know what you mean it was really bad. But both locals and students and people who live there from other countries agree that it's a very clean city.

Actually there are so many people so litter pigs could escape very easy from the police and the litter patrolers and they can spoil the city without any problem

I donno any place in Europe clean and safe. I've been in the "clean" Zurich and it was dirtier than Edinburgh. Believe it or not I saw it.
