  1. One, its probably the design of the handset and two, it may be using the headphones as an antenna. Some radios, especailly small radios, are designed to do that.


  2. the headset acts as the antenna as well as the speaker so you wouldn't get any signal otherwise. on most mobiles you can still play the radio through the loudspeaker but with the headphones still in
