  1. Wherever did you get that information?

My brother's an Eng'r & he's not even close to what you've mentioned.

  2. They are just boastful.  I am an engineer and I am a woman.

  3. I know some Filipino Engineers who are BADING. Therefore, it is not a pure Masculine Profession.

    I am an Engineer too!

  4. pass the blunts! you must be smoking some good ****!

  5. those biases  you mentioned are just spices in the engineer's work.  precisely the engineer's work is masculine in nature because of inherited risks,  for example:

    - structural engineer, may it be the design or construction of high rise buildings or bridges,  you should have the guts to climb the tallest part of the structure during construction.  For bridges you need the courage to be detailed to the remote sites where npa's maybe inhabiting the area or sickness such as malaria or dengue are prone.  i'm not talking yet about dams, railroads, railways and underground tunnels.

    - electrical engineer, aside from far flung places, you should be skilled to handle danger when working with high tension wires with 35,000 or more volts of electricity.  am not talking yet about high electrical tower transmissions and power generators.

    - mechanical engineer, working with equipment, machines, engines and others are not simple as they look.  can you stand the noise and chest beating of generators while in operation?  can you work under the intense heat of the boiler who may explode and blow you into pieces if you aren't careful enough?

there are more to say and you just figure it out.

now, are there professions that can be classified masculine other than the engineers?

  6. ...engineering is an admirable field. it calls for a specialized skill - they are generally good at numbers - which the general population doesn't possess.  in much the same way doctors are good at anatomy.

however, to say that most filipino engineers are this and that is a fallacy.  some men would always be gamblers, drinkers, cheaters, smokers, whether they are engineers or not.

the macho image probably stems from the fact that engineering, except perhaps chem eng'g, continues to be dominated by men.

that's all there is to it.

  7. Maybe that was just in the area that you were in.. I never heard of that... It's probably said by other engineers too to build up their reputation in looking cool.. Most whom I know are either corrupt, g*y, nerdy , or just simple..

  8. I have interpreted it in another way.

Perhaps, Filipino engineers are branded as "pure masculine professionals" because this field is mostly dominated by males.

It is very seldom to see a female engineering student in a class and, of course, a female engineer in a workplace.

  9. A misconception. Not all of them were gamblers, drinkers, smokers, and cheats. They gamble because they have the money to burn. They drink because it a part of their job. They smoke because of pressure. They cheat their wives? That i don't know for sure =)

Maybe one of them is not. hehehe... just maybe.
