SOMEDYUTIE, yes if you look on overall statitistics, gangulys strike rate is about 2-4% better.

However in 2007 Gangulys strike rate has been 73 whilst Dravids has been 82.

Moreover The top order of Sachin, sehwag and gambhir is very settled. dravid most of the times when he bats, comes in a crisis situation, but when india is of to a great start, he comes in a lot later, if not at all, so he is always up or down the order, an isnt settled.

Where as ganguly always opens and still very slow in one dayers.

  3. experience does come in 2 act.....when selector think of him but since selector want the young side 2 play cus they r looking forward 4 2011 world cup when there might be no talk abt ganguly............its better nt 2 play him in ODI. May be he could be given chance if yuvi is out of form........

  4. Hi,

Dravid is a class player than ganguly, ganguly is more aggressive than dravid, but dravid is most consistent than ganguly. Mostly Dravid comes to the crease when the team is in deep trouble. so he(Dravid) comes in, steadies the team by taking time. but Ganguly comes in without any pressure as he opens the innings with the great sachin(most of the time). so its better to give chance Dravid rather than Ganguly. Last series against srilanka in the final, we missed the lack of experience and final pressure with the youngsters. if Sachin is not in the team, Dravid should find a definite place in the playing XI.

  5. Dravid is  good technique batsman than Ganguly no doubt in it. I think Irfan Pathan Should replace with him.

But Indian Selectors are full of Politics.

  6. Well, I don't agree one bit. Dravid is even slower than Ganguly in making runs. Better check out Ganguly's ODI record and strike rate. It's better than Dravid. Just a particular innings doesn't matter. Ganguly is recognized as an aggressive player, while Dravid is a steady player.  I need not say more. Actually both are awesome players and are required for the team.

Edit: One particular year doesn't matter. Even people who know almost nothing of cricket can tell that Dravid is even slower than Ganguly. And Cool Manu has made a good point. Ganguly can bowl too, unlike Dravid, and his medium pace is quite useful at times. He does better as an opener, but on many occasions has he batted down the order. So, as an allrounder, Ganguly is even more useful. And Ganguly has made 22 ODI centuries, and out of those 22 matches in which he scored a ton, India has won 18 matches. So, don't tell me he hasn't played any match winning innings. And how many has Dravid made in ODIs?  He has 12 centuries in ODI. Anyway, the whole world knows that Ganguly is better than Dravid in the 50 over version of the game

But please don't make this unnecessary comparison. I think that both have the potential to play ODIs, and serve the team,

  7. Can you tell about a particular year or an overall performance?  Anyway selectors is looking forward for 2011 WC, its ok. But the strike rate can not be any cause. Someone who played 20 matches in a year and in every matches he came to do bat and score 10 to 30 within 5 to 15 balls respectively. His strike rate will be more than 100 in a year. According to your view he can e placed in the Indian team. Is not it? Now decide what will be your criteria to choose a player. But my suggesstion is that both three players can be selected and will play relatively tough match where the experience may be a factor. You know all the 3players has more than 10000 runs in odI with good average. Hence the presence of them junior will be helpfull. And one thing you can realise one of the players of your team other than sachin is not consistant and I am dam sure that they will not get to reach 10000 milestone with out sehwag.

Although both are the cream of the world as well as Indian cricket, for ur kind information.

    Rahul Dravid: ODIs 333 308 40 10585 153 39.49(avg) 14862 71.22(SR) 12 81 930 40 193 14

    Saurav Ganguly:

    ODIs 311 300 23 11363 183 41.02(avg) 15416 73.70(sr) 22 72 1122 190 100 0

  8. he can replace irfan pathan, ganguly can bat well and also can bowl, and these days irfan is totally out of form with bowl and bat. surely he can replace irfan.

and dnt compare  dravid with ganguly. ganguly is much fast and opener batsman with bowling ability also, and in one day side need all rounders.
