  1. To regain control over it!

Probably, President Saakashvili thought with the Ossetian population leaving the region, his army will easily go forward and bring the breakaway region under Tbilisi's rule.

I think he brought no good future to Georgia.

    edit:

    leluuu,

With all the conflicting reports, one thing is obvious: Georgian troops attacked South Ossetia early in Friday, carrying a large-scale military operation which left 12 Russian peacekeeper dead.

If you still say Georgia had the right to do so, then you're turning around the same point.

It's not the way to solve a conflict.

It shows frozen conflicts which have serious roots cannot be solved with the use of force.

I feel sorry for all the dead, civilians, peacekeepers and the Georgian soldiers who died for nothing - for a bloody adventure.

  2. You lie so much your authority! What a nightmare. I am Russian and live in Russia. Anything you do not understand what is happening there.

  3. Leluu

Stop LIE. I'm tied of your lie. Georgia always wantes to destroy population of osettia. Georgian soldier made great provocation and declare war.

If you defend Georgian soldiers. Then your hands in blood of Tsinval children

  4. South Ossetia was never a part of Georgia. It became in 1921 and after the Soviet Union stopped to exist it was declared an independent country. But apparently Georgia was not ok with that. This conflict lasts from early 90's, and always Russia was acted as a peacemaker in this conflict (there are a lot of Russians living in Ossetia). You can read about it on Wikipedia.

It's a fact that Geogria attacked Ossetia, Ossetia fighted back, then Georgia asked Russia for a help in resolving this conflict and then when Russian peacemakers reached Ossetian border, Georgia attacked them and told, that Russia started first. The US helped Georgia to spread this wrong information. This was OBVIOUSLY very well planned by Georgia, and of course the US government, who has a great interest in Georgia (basically, it's trying to surround Russia by NATO-countries to have a control of Russia). The thing that scares me most is how US government tells the people an OBVIOUS lie, and people just buy this sh*t so easily. That's unbelievable and really scary. Last place this happened was Nazy Germany.

PS: oh, and also that was Georgia who has been killing peace inhabitants and destroying Ossetians, and was even accused in genocide. And these bustards are still telling that they fight for freedom, and Russia is somehow preventing them from being a free country. That's so not true! Freedom of Georgia has nothing to deal with that, that's Ossetia who is a victim.

  5. Let me begin by saying; I'm not big fan of Russia and its policies. But, having said that, I must admit I can no longer stand the hypocrisy of our media when they show Russia to be the aggressor in this particular instance. Didn't Georgia attack the independent neighbor for, what some would say, very selfish reasons? Didn't unjustified attack on its smaller neighbor make Georgia THE initial AGGRESSOR? According to most media sources South Ossetia lost between 1200 and 1400 innocent lives on the day of the attack. ALL OF WHO were civilians !!! I don't believe that to be an AGGRESSION, nor I believe it to be an OPPRESSION, tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe it to be GENOCIDE !!! So, when Russia decides to step in and help the little guy, all of a sudden they are in the wrong ???

They are wrong to stop the Georgian Troops from killing innocent Ossetians who are rightfully enjoying their independence since 1992? By the way, Georgia has been Independant only since 1991 !

I also understand that we love to exercise our right to freedom of speech. But help Georgia transport its troops serving in Iraq from Iraq to Georgia?

How would we feel if Russia started transporting Taliban and Al Qaeda troops from Syria and Iran to Iraq ???

So, we can attack other countries and overthrow their regimes, but we will decide whether or not Russia can defend its neighbors?

    Who are we kidding?

  6. Georgia didnt attack

    Georgia defended his own territory

it was great provokation from Russia, its not the first provokation from them and the Georgian nation couldnt stand and thats what happening now.. Russia always wanted to annex Georgia and he is so near to do it, how can a lil counrty like Georgia fight against Russia?!

  7. Christ knows... I think Sabakashvili (that's what we call him and that means Dogshvili) thought that Russia wouldn't dare to go to war, due to the olympics and the fact that georgia is basically 52nd state of america. However, it was a mistake to shoot at our peacekeepers. You can call me a nationalist but those georgians cometo Moscow, my home city and take over the best jobs and talk to us, the natives, like we are some trash! that's already enough to ethnically cleanse them all. Along with west ukranians and latvians. Belarus will sure help us (we actually signed a treaty according to which, we are now the same country with them). Anyway, Saakashvili already scrambled the reserves, meaning, they're finished.

  8. I think they wanted to resolve their teritorial problem by any means to be able to enter NATO with big brothers help, but I do not think it's going to hapen, and I don't think NATO needs him, it's US who needs georgians there, and not for good couse. it's not going to make the world a better place at all.

  9. its funny to hear opinions like "georgia wanted to help ossetia" and "georgia just wanted to get rid of the ossetian separatists, nothing more". see during the first strike of georgians, where they attacked tshinval, they used the Grads, which are the weapon of spread fire, meanin it covers up big territories. this weapon was used against the town, which was a guaranteed way to destroy it completely. other then tht they used the airforces to attack the peacekeepers forces and had 15 of them dead, were they also the separatists? ok..

  10. RUSSIA ATTACKED IT!!!!!!!! THERE TRYING TO TAKE IT OVER

  11. Georgia broke the truce they signed back in the late 90's, which specifically allowed Russian peacekeepers in the province.  Their unprovoked attack was calculated to coincide with two events, namely: all eyes were on the Olympics and their firm supporter (Pres. Bush) will soon be leaving office.

On both accounts, their gamble will fail.  The Russians could care less about the Olympics as an impediment for using military force, and Bush will only be giving rhetorical support.

While on the surface, it looks bad that Russia is violating a neighboring country's sovereign space, but the recent history shows how their 'peacekeepers' were legally in the country in the first place.

We'll leave Georgia high and dry, the same way we did to the Czechs and Hungarians in the 50s and 60s when they too were calling for western help after the Ruskies were clamping down on them.  After our rhetorical salvoes and a few UN resolutions sanctions hurled at the Ruskies, we'll call it a day.  It's not worth going to war over, at least not the big WW kind.

  12. South Ossetia is part of georgia how could they have attacked their own nation russia is jsut pulling this bullshit to try to make a play for power we ened to make a stand

  13. I don't side with neither Russia nor Georgia. From what I hear on Western media, Georgian troops were attacked by South Ossetian separatists. Thus, Georgia responded by bombardment, although they did a little too much bombing...

As for Russian media, they are justifying their attacks by defending "Russian civilians." This isn't the case because Russia wants to control Georgia's oil pipeline and not allow Georgia to become a NATO member at their backyard.

I understand a bit about both sides of the propaganda, especially from Russia Today's News. I am 2/4 Russian myself
