  1. Actually the PGA and The Royal And Ancient are asking for golf to become an olympic sport. In the late 1800's to 1912 it was an olympic sport, but then the olympic people thought that it wasn't a sport and decided to take it off the list of sports. Now that it is very competitive i moght be on again.

  2. It used to be ... albeit very briefly.

Golf was an Olympic event for both men and women in 1900, although many competitors weren't aware they were competing in the Olympics.

Men played a 72-hole medal tournament, while women played only 9 holes.

At the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, there was no women's golf tournament, but men had a match-play tournament for the individual championship. There was also a tournament for 10-man teams. All of the competitors were from the United States except for George Lyon, the Canadian who won the individual championship.

Would be pretty cool to have it as an olympic event ... and now that the entire world is golfing, the competition would be fantastic.  I've heard that the IOC is talking about bringing it back.

  3. Because it's already a worldwide sport.  The only change that would happen if it was added to the Olympics would be a sense of nationalism. Which wouldn't be a bad thing.

  4. it was in three times first winner ross sommerville canada , 2nd winner by default ross sommerville , who refused the gold . third time same thing . refused gold .

  5. I think it's the stigma that comes with golf for being an elitist sport.  And also in many parts of the world people have little appreciation for golf, it's hard to get them to watch golf and appreciate its beauty.  How many times have people told you what is so difficult hitting a stationary ball?

  6. Because I think the Olympics are supposed to be interesting.
