i got a new 42" JVC full LCD HDTV. it is great when viewing 1080i prorams, crystal clear. but when watching program broadcasting in 480 or 720 resolution, the picture looks horrible, while my second set (tube) TV is clear and detail for those programs?

has everybody has the same experience as i have? why is that?

  1. Let me guess. Your old TV is somewhere south of 32 inch diagonal.

When you display content designed for standard def TV on a giant screen of high resolution, that minimal  detail gets spread out over the whole 1080 raster. Unless the TV has some kind of sharpening upsampling function, it's bound to look fuzzy.

It's kind of generic. The only thing I can suggest is to sit farther away from the screen. Lame, I know, but it's all you can do. Eventually, all the content will be HD and this problem will disappear.
