Why Hindus become intolerant towards Islam?

I learned lots about India. India has been a place for many religions - Hindu, Muslims, Christians, Jain, Buddhism, Sikhism, Parsis, Jews etc. There is no religions hatred in Indian history except in last few years. Majority of Indians has been Hindus and are respecting other religions, but it is noticed that tolerance disappears when it comes to Islam. Why? Islam is one of the greatest religion of the world.

One of the biggest does not necessarily mean one of the greatest religions. Islam has no tolerance for other religions and causes a downward spiral amongst all other religions. It's a "hate the haters" affect.

Maybe, just maybe, it's because of outside(western) influence.

Maybe it's because the Qur'an contains verses that are ambiguous at best and plain murderous and sexist at their worst?

Any hatred towards any sect always come through its people , I wont say everyone , but some people deeds draws a bigger impression. Pakistan an muslim country is neighbouring country to India and their are many reports ISI has been working against india . Such things cause hatred among people when most of belong to one sect. Its like some theists hate atheists . But I believe hindus are still very tolerant people , such intolerance issues exist everywhere and they are in small ratio. But frankly Islam is not an peacefull religion and its on some mission to spread islam and denounce all other religions that what i dislike about major people practising islam

Why is Islam intolerant of Judaism?  etc.  Every religion is intolerant of others and that leads to hatred, war, etc.

I guess it's a little better in the west, because most people follow laws and not crazy extremeists.

It's a long historical thing.

The early Muslims would have viewed the Hindus as pagan idolaters. This meant that there could be no peace with them. Muslims could make some sort of peace with Christians and Jews because they were  of "The Book"..

Hindus were completely alien to them. They also have a long tradition of graven images. That the early Muslims would have felt compelled to attack and destroy...

Once you have destroyed a Hindu sacred site,, Things just go down hill.

There is a whole series of Islamic Invasions into Hindu Land.. (This how the area later know as Pakistan become Muslim) and centuries of mutual hostility..

Jihad wasn't just against Christian Europe. It was against Hindus in India, Buddhists in Afghanistan,, against Taoists in Western China, and Animists in Africa.Islam waged war against non-believers where ever it spread.

Muslims are the ones who are extremely intolerant of al Hindus. In fact, Muslims are by far the worlds most intolerant people. No close second.

In fact, Muslims have always been intolerant of Hindus. The greatest genocides in human history were done by Muslims trying to exterminate all Hindus within reach. Thats a fact, no exagerration at all.

i'm afraid  your  knowledge  of indian history  is inadequate.during  mughal rule, the rulers inflicted untold atrocities on hindus-murdering,raping and usurping their land.they were  famous fr demolishing temples and  building mosques  in that place.

prior  to independence  muslims under  jinnah  demanded  a separate  country  fr  muslims. and  partition happened  amid  horrific riots.and  after  getting  their own country  ,muslims  are  still living in india ,getting  reservation  fr  jobs and  admission  into  colleges.

they  burn trains with hindus in them. they refer  to hindus as  haraam or infidels. muslim majority  kashmir  drove out  the  hindus  living  there  . and   have  been demanding  independence  fr  some time.there  are bomb blasts at regular intervals carried  out  by  islamic fundamentalists  causing untold misery to the common man!
