Honduras like many central american countries have a big mal-distribution of wealth.  A small few have the vast majority of resources.  They also control opportunity, land, access to loans,  and manufacturing.   It is more profitable to produce goods cheaply in honduras and sell them for a considerable profit elsewhere.  manufactured goods ie cars, electronics, things people want but don't really needs have to be imported and increases cost.  In the big picture things are not so expensive but incomes are so little that luxuries are often out of reach.

The root of the evil that causes the problems in Honduras is the poor state of the RULE OF LAW. Also the over reliance of the economy in governmental activity.

These 2 issues creates a ripe situation for corruption and  that drives investment away and kills many chances for the poor to have jobs and move out of poverty.
