If I type in a search in the search box, I am always redirected to a different site. If I copy and paste the url into the url box, then and only then do I go where I want to go.

  1. you might have malicious wares in your computer.

  2. It sounds like you've been using Internet Explorer.  You need to download and run Ad-Aware to get rid of the spyware that's infected your system, renew your antivirus subscription, and finally download and install Mozilla Firefox so this doesn't happen again.

  3. Could be spyware.  In this case it would be called a hijacking.

First make sure you've done all your windows updates.

If it's still happening, try the following:

1 downoad windows defender at the windows site and run it

    2 download and run AdAware

3 Download and run spybot search and destroy

All three of these have free versions. The free version of Adaware doesn't do realtime monitoring; the free version of spybot does. Defender gives you 2 free reports with support. All three do the same thing (scan for spyware) but catch different offenders.  Defender also stops popups.

4 Keep them current by checking for updates frequently.

5 Run one or all of them after each browsing session (like washing your hands after using the bathroom). Start the scan and wlk away for a while.

If this doesn't work you can try registry mechanic, and changing browsers.  Firefox is less vulnerable right now, but since it's getting more popular that will probably change...

Or you could get a Mac...

    Get firefox at: www.mozilla.com
