I am an 18 year old male and I have agoraphobia which means I am afraid of awkward public situations, I have not left my home for 8 weeks and I a also get worried about what people think about my appearance and of how I am in general. I can't even leave my home to visit my counsellor because I have it so bad, the main problem is the more time I spend in solitary confinement (my home) the harder it is to get back into becoming a sociable person again and the worse I feel about myself. I am tall and lanky I probably always will be and I look a little odd, how can I come to terms with this? I hate myself and the person I was born as, and I question everything

  1. Do you have someone you can depend on to get you to your doctor?  I know it's hard even to think about going out, but maybe you can get some meds and talk therapy to help a little.

Don't be so hard on yourself.  I'm sure you have many, many wonderful qualities.  This is just an illness---not a character flaw.

There are a lot of support groups out there, too.  I know----you don't want to go.  But in time, with the right meds and counseling, you might feel like it.

You are NOT alone.  Best of luck to you.

  2. It's hard because nothing anyone will say to you right now will get you out of your house. It's something that you need to really want to do. Once you hold a little of that want to get out of your house remind yourself of what you are missing out on. Tall and lanky is not always a bad thing. I'm sure that you are gorgeous. Fight for what you want, and what you need. Good luck to you!

  3. Theres no reason why you should be afraid of what people think of you man. I've been there. Worrying only makes things worse. But you have to know that things happen for a reason. Maybe your going through this expirence because in the end its only going to make you a stronger person. You shouldn't hate yourself or the person you were born as, you were born for a reason man and good things will happen in time. Someone once said when facing your fear is when you become a better and stronger person. Just keep your head up man. Let go walk outside, go to your councelor that person is there to help. Keep you head up man you seem like a cool person, and remember things will fall into place when they are supposed too.

    Good luck
