Why I can not change my group's name?

As an owner of a Yahoo group, I am currently trying to change the name of my group.I first searched in Yahoo Groups Search Box and also searched in World Wide Web with the new name,and became completely sure that there is no other Yahoo group having the new name that I am going to select for my group. But yet whenever I am trying to change my group' s name,each time the following message appears-"That group name has already been taken". I cannot understand why this is happening. I need to change the name for the good of my group.So can anybody please provide any explanation or soluton of this problem?Thanks.

this is happening because one- a private group has the name of which you would find in any directory since they don't list

or two- it was recently used and it hasn't hit the recycle period yet. it still could be on hold.

Here is how you can change the name of your group:

You may change the name of your group at any time, but remember: this may confuse your members!

If you change your group email address/URL:

a. Any existing invitations, links, and sign-up boxes outside the Yahoo! Groups service will no longer be valid, since these refer to your old group name.

b.Any message filters or email in-box assistance programs maintained by your members may have to be changed. For example, if a member has an email program that organizes incoming messages into folders, it may not be able to recognize your new group name.

c.If your group has been running for some time, your members may resist any changes to the name.

Please carefully consider the implications before changing the name of a group.

OK if you want to do it anyway, here’s how:

1. From the list on the left, click Management. This link only shows up if you’re the owner of the group or a moderator with Management privileges.

2. Under "Group Settings" in the upper right, click "Description & Appearance".

3. Click Edit next to "Web Address".

4. Change the "Group Address", then click Save Changes.

Note: We generally recommend checking the box to notify users of changes.

But if you cannot still change the name, it may mean that there is a group with that name, probably a new one, and it is not listed in the Yahoo! directory yet.

Before again attempting to change it, decide on several group names.  Then go to http://groups.yahoo.com/ and do a search for that name.  Do not put any spaces in the group name. Example:  suzysredshoes

If your search pulls up a group with that name, try another name on your list and search for it.  When you finally succeed in not finding a group with one of your selections, go back and make your group's name change.  

You will also need to change whatever group Title (name) appears at the top of your group's home page because that can be found in a search.

Sign in to the group.

Click management.

Under Group Settings, click on Description & Appearance.

To the right of Description, click Edit.

In the field to the right of Title, delete what is in the field and type in the title as you want it to appear on the home page.

Click Save Changes.
