Hello friends,

I am a beginner in sea kayaking. with some internet informations - I am learning myself the eskimo roll (no kayak school in my state- south part of india).

I today tried to hold a small catamaran when rolling from the side. then I tried with paddle that tied with air bag. In both cases I got the setup, cockup, hipsnap and head down (I read it :)) so all the attempts where successful.

But, I could not get out of the water when I tried with paddle (it really pull me out of my kayak, when I try to roll). I am confused. Please explain me the reasons.

  1. I'm impressed that you are teaching yourself to roll.  My best advise would be to try and order some videos that teach rolls, so you can be sure to get the 'true' advise.  (check out: http://3dparks.wr.usgs.gov/zion/html/3d0...  It's important, of course, to have a solid roll.  Possibly when you are using the paddle, you are sweeping with the blade while under water, which would pull you around.  As far as correcting that issue, I'm sure you've heard this before, but, practise makes perfect.  Good luck!
