  6. IPL stands for Indian Premier League, which is a T20 cricket tournment being conducted by Board of Control of Cricket in India.  Though the objective mentioned for the conduct of the tournament is development of cricket,  the main idea is generating revenue.

  7. IPL stands for Indian Premier League. It's based on the lines of the club system like in football and the county cricket in England...here in IPL there are 8 teams:

    Delhi Daredevils

    Kings XI Punjab

    Kolkota Knight Riders

    Mumbai Indians

    Deccan Chargers

    Bangalore Royal Challengers

    Rajasthan Royals

    Chennai Super Kings..

the question "WHY" seems to be a bit weird...because it's cricket n it's meant to be played...n basically there are two prime objectives behind it: promotion of cricket and ofcourse revenue.

IPL is really big..i mean in terms of the moolah..lota of money is being pumped in...plus the presence of international players makes it even bigger...

so all in all..IPL is cricket entertainment.

  14. it was started as bcci was afraid of losing its power n popularity after the rise of ICL . it tried to warn n threaten t players in ICL , also tried to stop ICL by cuttin ICC support but nothing happened . so they stared IPL with lots of glamour n players to attract the public ...... Note: its just a copy of English Premier League(football) in england which s more interestin n popular .

  15. Here are some facts and a link below from where you can get the facts.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a franchise-based Twenty20 competition organised by the BCCI, and it has official sanction since it has the backing of the ICC. It features the world's best cricketers playing - their affiliation decided by open auction - for eight city-based franchises, owned by a host of businessmen and celebrity consortiums. The inaugural edition of the tournament will run from April 18 to June 1.

The sheer financial scale of the IPL is unprecedented at this level of cricket. The BCCI has already made close to US$ 1.75 billion solely from the sale of TV rights ($908 million), promotion ($108 million) and franchises (approximately $700 million). Players are expected to earn close to US$1 million for a three-year contract. It's an entire cricket economy out there.

The IPL has the top current players who will feature in its inaugural tournament, with the likes Mahendra Siggh Dhoni, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Shoaib Akhtar, Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath Jayasuriya, Yuvraj Singh, and Matthew Hayden participating. England will have only one representative in Dimitri Mascarenhas because the IPL will clash with their domestic season, while Australia's Michael Clarke has opted to focus on his regular cricket.

Mukesh Ambani, the Reliance Industries chairman, acquired the Mumbai franchise for $111.9 million over a 10-year period; beer and airline baron Vijay Mallya, who also owns a Formula 1 team, won the Bangalore franchise for $111.6 million; Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment won the Kolkata franchise for $75 million; the biggest surprise was the Chandigarh franchise, which went to Preity Zinta, another Bollywood star, and Ness Wadia, together with two other industrialists, for $75 million. The winning team will get richer by $3 million if they win the first edition of the tournament.

  16. Hey its summer ..and vacation time.. vacation for schools and colleges.  U know there are h**l lot of politics played in BCCI and so as a result we lost many matches in the internation arena. Kapil Dev was against  BCCI and said that BCCI is not encouraging (giving chances to) new talented players. So he started a concept called ICL(I suppose its Indian Champions League..i am not sure). He identified some young talents and grouped them in to many teams. So that people are entertained as well as the young talented cricketers can be identified. He was asking for sponsors for which the response was moderate. The BCCI gave some troubles for the actions of Kapil dev like not giving stadiums for play etc.. but some how he managed to do that.. To compete with ICL, the BCCI came out with the idea of IPL(Indian Premier League). The concept is that eight teams can be formed and all will be awared with some money.. Do u know the 1st prize goes up to 4 crore and the last prize is 40lakhs.? These money are being given by BCCI and the main sponsors DLF. Any body can have their own team. The team should not contain more than 4 foreign players while on the ground. BCCI also invited many foreign cricket players to play in IPL. When everything was confirmed the teams went in for buying players.

Its just like a software company rercuiting a s/w engg for a project work.Imagine you got a job in software company for 5 lakhs per annum but the project worth is 1 crore..so the remaining amount of 95 lakhs goes to the company .Similarly the superstars(not only superstarts but also some big industrialists like ambani ,vijay mallaya) , fix the salary for the players but make more money if they win.

Out of all the players Dhoni was bidded for a high amount(Means his Cost To Company is high). All the teams are playing the matches now. Whichever team wins, the owners will be getting the prize amount...say for example if kolkatta knight riders win the finals sharukh, juhi chawla and his brother will be getting 40crore but not the team players as they are bought by the owners for some amount. The players have signed a contract for 3 years i suppose.

The ultimate object behind IPL is three things

    1. to suppress ICL

    2. to make money

    3. to provide entertainment in India as india is a market for cricket.

Die hard fans of crickets buy tickets which are sources of income to BCCI apart from the sponsors and the cricket clubs. And thats why sharad pawar worked very hard to get president post of BCCI.

And since this being the first year.they have got some restrictions in fixing up the salary of the players. From next year it may reach upto $15 million  per player. Australian cricketers are verymuch interested in this and they said that they can easily becom rich..
