Why IS New York Called 'The Big Apple' ?

  1. Some writer in the 1920's came up with the term in reference to horse racing.  New York being the "Big Apple" that all horsemen aspire to go to.  And for whatever reason, it stuck.


  2. I'm a native NYer and they told me in 3rd grade it was cuz NY is the second largest producer of apples

    we DID go apple pickin every fall, so i kinda believe it
