  1. Inspired by Majeed's answer

There is no religiouns difference between Sunnis and Shias. Both read Quran, perform prayer to God same way and perform Haj also. Only minor difference is that Shias believe on some statements of Prophet to be true and Sunnis believe that Prophet Mohammad never made those statements and Shias have fabricated the statement to justify their belief that Ali and his descendents should only be the leaders of Muslims. They believe Ali son in law of Prophet should have been the first successor and his sons and succeeding descendents should have been the leaders of Muslims after Mohammad SAW died. Whereas all Muslims who were members of the Advisory Council of Prophet Mohammad (the elders of most tribes of Muslims) chose Abu Bakar soon after Prophet died as their leader. After he died Omar was chosen followed by Othman bin Affan. Ali was chosen as the Ameer of Muslims fourth time fourth time because He was youngest of all and needed experience to lead Ummah. Ali did work as the Chief Secretary of the

government of each of the first three leaders of Muslims and was highly respected man.

Shias has been crying for last 1400 years that Ali was robbed of his right. They believe Ali and his descendents only had right to be the leaders of Muslims. They believe leadership should have been given on the basis of hereditory

though Prophet Mohammad never ever even gave hint that Ali should be given leadership after Prophet dies. If Prophet had given such a hint in Public (as Shias claim) companions of Prophet SAW would never had disobeyed his command.

Claim of Shias is false. This is the only problem.

I don't know about Alavi's. This is branch of Shias and only a Shia can answer about them.

There is no sect named Wahabis. Mohammad Abdul Wahab a religious leader of Saudi Arabia durinjg the first King of this dynasty saw that Muslims were paying too much attention (almost like worshipping) on the graves of dead Musims- specially on the graves of the companions of Prophet and the religious scholars. They cried and ask the graves for personal help of any kind like the dead has power to hear and help them.. Mohammad Abdul Wahab believed Muslims are deviating from Islam. They will start worshipping dead people more than Allah if it continued, so he convinced the King who established the current dynasty of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to flatten all the graves of the companions of Prophet SAW, erect a wall and put a lock on the gate, so people spend more time worshipping Allah like the early Muslims and companions of Prophet did. So Saudi people believe what Wahab did is correct. Saudi and most Muslims through out the Islamic world only pray to God to forgive the sins of a dead person. That is all they do and don't believe in making annual pilgrimage on the graves of dead people no matter how great religious scholars they were. Shias are still performing pilgrimage of the tombs of Ali, and Hussain and all their dead religious leaders in Iraq and Iran. Same way illiterate Muslims in India and Pakistan do on the old graves of

    religious scholars and sufis.

Saudis are more simplistics, therefore muslims of other countries call them Wahabis though in truth it is not a sect of Islam. When you ask a Saudi who are you, he will only say I am a Muslim. If you ask Sunni or Shia, then he will say I am Sunni. This is what I believe. There is no difference in Saudi Muslims and Muslims of any Muslim country.

Saudi Governemnt allows to perform Haj of Kaaba (Mecca) and to visit to the Mosque of Prophet in Madina and they allow Muslims to pray to Allah for the soul of Prophet Mohammad. His tomb is inside the Masjid of Prophet SAW in Madina. They do not allow people kiss the walls of the tomb of Prophet SAW because that will be like the walls are of the tomb are special and holy for fear of additions and changes in the simplicity of Religion Islam.

Islam teaches that we must follow the teachings of dead person if he was Prophet of Allah or even a good scholar and don't talk to him like he is alive and can help you in any way. The dead person has done his duty of guiding Muslims and his soul is with Allah. He can neither hear us nor can do any thing for us and we can not make him like another god and start worshipping by his grave like Hindus burn the bodies and then make Statues of their religious people and worship them calling their god instead of worshipping Allah.

It is quite possible that some of them were true Prophets of Allah sent to them for their guidance to worship one God only. But after their death, Hindus started worshipping their statues instead of worshiping Allah the creator of all. They call all these statues as gods which has been against the teachings of every Prophet of Allah they ever had.

Saudi government and their scholar recognizes Shias as Muslims and allow them to perform Haj of Kaaba. It is wrong to call them non-Muslims as some Muslims do this mistake.

    for Shia's name

  2. Allah forbids division in deen and this makes the divided non-Muslim.

  3. since majority started following Hadith books, they divided themselves into groups or sects, hadith books are said to be sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammed ,but actually these books are nothing but lies, fabrications, conjectures.majority have abandoned Glorious Quran THE TRUE BOOK of Muslims (For the whole man kind) a Complete code of life.

these hadith books started to come up 200 yrs after the death of Prophet Muhammed.

interestingly there are 2 major sects in islam namely Sunnis, and Shias.

both these sects have their own hadith books ,but they religiously rejects eachother hadith books usually calling each other kafirs (pagans)

the gentleman abul harrith is one who labels every one a pagan unless people start to follow his set of hadith books !

now Maria Evergreen,a\has quoted a classical lie, from hadith ..it starts with ON THE AUTHORITY OF..

as if his authority supersedes Allah Allmighty's Authority !!

as if they knew future ! came up with exact number of sects that is 72 ! where as Glorious Quran says Prophet Muhammed DID NOT know Future.

here are the following Verses from Glorious Quran

[5:109] The day will come when GOD will summon the messengers and ask them, "How was the response to you?" They will say, "We have no knowledge. You are the Knower of all secrets."

To emphasize that fact and give it to us straight forward, God tells us in 46:9

[46:9] Say (O Muhammed), "I am not different from other messengers. I have no idea what will happen to me or to you. I only follow what is revealed to me. I am no more than a profound warner."

    To confirm it even more God repeat this information in 7:188;

[7:188 ] Say (O Muhammed), "I have no power to benefit myself, or harm myself. Only what God wills happen to me. If I KNEW THE FUTURE, I would have increased my wealth, and no harm would have afflicted me. I am no more than a warner, and a bearer of good news for those who believe."

[6:50] Say (O Muhammed), "I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of GOD. Nor do I know the future. Nor do I say to you that I am an angel. I simply follow what is revealed to me." Say, "Is the blind the same as the seer? Do you not reflect?"

Despite these straight forward verses, many traditional Muslims refuse to believe the Quran and insist that the prophet Muhammed told of future events.  One of their famous fabrications is a hadith in which there is a prediction of those who will uphold the Quran ALONE with warning to do like them. Another famous fabrication is the hadith telling about future sects and their number.

    We need no more proof than the Quran and when faced with those who claim to be Muslims but refuse to believe God in His own book, we remember  18:57;

[18:57] Who are more evil than those who are reminded of their Lord's proofs, then disregard them, without realizing what they are doing. Consequently, we place shields on their hearts to prevent them from understanding it (the Quran), and deafness in their ears. Thus, no matter what you do to guide them, they can never ever be guided.

@@ Maria evrgreen its time for you to understand and Carefully read Glorious Quran

  4. Splitting and differing occur because people began to follow desires and innovations.

And we are warned from following the deviant groups, which we have been told that our Ummah will enter into different sects.

((Indeed the people who came before you from the People of the Book split into 72 sects, and indeed this nation will split up into 73 sects: 72 in the fire and one in Jannah, and they are the Jamaa'ah)) (This was reported by Imaam Ahmad and others and al-Haafidh graded it as Hasan)

    In another narration there occurs:

كلهم في النار إلا مله واحدة : ما أنا عليه و أصحابي

((All of them in the fire except one way: What I and my Companions are upon)) (And this was narrated by at-Tirmidhee and is graded as Hasan by al-Albaanee in his Saheeh al-Jaami' 5219)

And the Jamaa'ah which is mentioned in this hadeeth can only be one Jamaa'ah, and that is the understanding of the Sahaabah.

So what is the understanding of the Jamaa'ah in this hadeeth?

'Amro bin Maymoon said to 'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (رضي الله عنه):

    وكيف لنا بالجماعة؟

((So how are we with the Jamaa'ah?))

So Ibn Mas'ood replied to 'Amro:

يا عمرو بن ميمون إنَّ جمهور الجماعة هي التي تفارق الجماعة، إنما الجماعة ما وافق طاعة الله وإن كنت وحدك

((O 'Amro bin Maymoon, the majority of the Jamaa'ah are those who differ with the Jamaa'ah, indeed the Jamaa'ah are those who are firm upon the obedience of Allaah even if you are by yourself)) (Reported by al-Laalikaa'ee in his Sharh Usool al-I'tiqaad (160) and by Ibn 'Asaakir in his Taareekh Dimashq (2/322/13))

  5. these sects are just like you have sects in christainity: protestant, catholic, orothodox... they all believe in allah but their interpretations are different... ahmadis(mirzas) they believe gulam ahmed mirza

sunnis( believe in muhammad (saw)) shias (believe in muhammad but believed that hazrat ali should have been prophet and they strongly believe that today)

  6. Ahmadis are apostate.

Simple reason is that this world is not perfect, this is the place of trial and people are free to follow satan. Allah has set satan free to misguide people.

So, follow what Allah and Prophet says.

  7. yes we are !!

but we can blame abu bakr and umar for making sunnis and dividing islam !!

  8. muslims are a one big family....

  9. Unfortunately, there have appeared in this ummah many groups preaching different beliefs and ideas from what Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam and the Sahaabah radiyallaahu 'anhum preached.

The bottom line is, unity is only possible when following tawheed and the Sunnah.  As for groups that are astray, pay them no mind.

  10. It is narrated on the authority of ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet , said that the Ummah will divide into seventy-three groups; all of them will enter h**l except one, namely, the one that follows the way of the Prophet , and that of his companions may Allaah be pleased with them. [At-Tirmithi]

Muhammad K, its useless to talk to you because you do not believe in ahadith. and here you go creating another sect, be it.

  11. There are different SECTs in Islam, like there are different SECTS in Christianity.

  12. Over the period of time after the death of the last Prophet of Islam, Muhammed, there have arisen many Muslim Sects by means of schools of thought, traditions, and related faiths.[1][2]

However, the central text of Islam, the Qur'an ordains that Muslims are not to be divided into divisions or sects and rather be united under a common goal of faith in one God Allah alone[Qur'an 3:103], failure to do which has also been deemed a sin by God and thus forbidden.[6:149][6:159]

According to a Hadith (collections of accounts of the life and teachings of Muhammed) report, Muhammed is said to have prophecised "My Ummah (Community or Nation) will be fragmented into seventy-three sects, and all of them will be in the h**l fire except one." The Sahaba (his companions) asked him which group that would be, whereupon he replied, "It is the one to which I and my companions belong" ([reported in [Sunan al-Tirmidhi]] Hadith No. 171).

The Qur'an also ordains that the followers of Islam need to 'obey Allah and obey the Messenger (i.e. Prophet Muhammed)' stressing on the importance of keeping the commandments mentioned in the Qur'an by Allah, and following all the teachings of Muhammed,[4:59]; labeling everyone who concurs as a 'Muslim'[22:78] and a part of the 'best of communities brought forth from mankind'.[3:110]
