  1. insulin is a very potent hypoglycaemic harmone. in the balance of the glucose in the body, insulin is the only harmone that promotes uptake of glucose from the blood into the cells n their conversion into glycogen. whereas, many harmones can perform the conversion of glycogen into glucose n incresing the blood glucose levels, such as, adrenalin, thyroxin, glucagon, etc.  now, for ur question, being a potent hypoglycaemic harmone, insulin,if given intravenously or intramuscularly, can cause death due to hypoglycaemia. when given subcutaneously, it is absorbed slowly and over a period of time, simulating the slow and extended release of insulin from pancreas and produces the desired effects. for further reference, u can check out the release of insulin from the pancreas in response to the ingestion of food. u can find this topic in any of the pharmacology books for medicine such as TRIPATHI or KATZUNG
