Why Iraq????????????

I would like to know your personal opinions of why we are involved in Iraq currently. Your opinions are valued. I think part of it has to do with oil, definitely. Maybe our government still hope that they will find WMDs there. Maybe "hope" isn't the right word. What do you think?

  1. Because THOUSANDS of Iraqis have helped us with information, food, housing, and other assistance.

If we simply pull out, they will be slaughtered for helping an infidel nation.

That would simply be wrong to cause that kind of genocide of our friends, regardless of whether we should have gone in to begin with.

If America does this, we will forever be friendless in the world - because to be a friend of America would mean death.

  2. They aren't finding any WMDs. I think they went there for the oil and to try and build a regime that would be our place in the middle East. The Saudis weren't (and aren't) helping us, really. We needed a strong ally and we made stronger enemies.

  3. The Iraqi Liberation Act was passed during Clinton's last term - google it - unfortunately, he was overly concerned with his legacy, too busy playing hide the cigar and essentially ignored the mandate.

After the events of 9/11, and the world's intelligence reports, and Saddam's own boasting and the enormous amounts of WMD's found and destroyed by the UN inspectors - don't you really think that at the time it would have been a little foolhardy to ASSUME that Saddam had complied with the UN resolutions and no longer had any chemical arsenals?

  4. they were a threat. They had WMD's but they were transported since they knew we were coming.

  5. I think it was more about Israel and disrupting the Muslim world

Build hatred for Muslims, get Muslim fighting Muslims

I think their hidden goals were achieved

  6. Expand American influence in the region and to say "don't mess with us" to the rest of the world.

  7. Before the war Colin Powell quoted the Pottery Barn Rule: "If you break it, you buy it".  Whatever bad reasons were used to justify the invasion, we broke Iraq, so it's up to us to try to fix.  Otherwise it'll just be another tragic failed state like Somalia.

  8. If the current administration had pulled out at any point, it would be admitting what everyone knows - they screwed up big time and there was no reason for us to ever go there.

They'd rather see our military members die and go through living Hades on earth than have to admit the obvious.

    That's the definition of hubris.

  9. Remember Operation Desert Storm in the 90s? Bush Sr. went in when Iraq tried to take over Kuwait. He chose not to go in and remove Saddam Hussein at that time. I believe Bush Jr. decided he wanted to finish what his father had started. 9/11 gave him a plausible excuse.

Of course, I may just be nuts...

  10. The real lie was the media about the WMDs. The weapons inspection was really a weapons removal.

The media doesn't care for our safety if it can make George Bush look bad.
