Why Is Canada's Population So Low?

I mean it's the second largest country but the United States is like right under it and they have like 10 times bigger population and 35 other countries have a bigger population then canada. Why is that?

  1. part of Canada is very frigid in the northern parts and a lot of Canada is agricultural, like the fields of Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, what we call the Breadbasket of the world, actually extends up into Canada.  Some people from Europe that settled in North America didn't like the cold weather.  The Spanish adventurers and explorers didn't want to go into areas that were really cold, because it was not what they were used to.  

    So for a variety of reasons, more people stayed in the USA, and after the Revolution, many people who were against the rule of Kings and Queens, who by the accident of birth got everything, wanted to live in the USA and Canada was  a colony under British rule

    Quebec is a french speaking area which sort of divides Canada into English and French
