  1. Because it challenged the edifice of religious values that were so dominant for hundreds of years.religion held the deck of cards until Darwins scientific research dismissed its claims, leading to a new way of looking at the creation of the world.

  2. Because Tom Cruise agrees with it, and he jumps on couches.

  3. Darwin's Theory removes any "higher power" from the equation of how we got here. That is why the religious do not like it.

  4. A natural conclusion of Darwin's theory of evolution is that mankind evolved from a lower form of animal.  Almost everyone here says that it was an ape.

Christianity says that Adam and Eve were placed on the earth by God and they created mankind.

They are contradictory in terms of how mankind came into existence.

  5. It isn't controversial. It's wrong. Big difference.

  6. because people do not want to believe the idea that humans evolved from apes.

  7. Do you know what it is? It's basically saying god doesn't exist. Naturally, religious people would disagree and possibly be offended by it. Try looking it up on wikipedia.

  8. Its controversial because it's a false theory with no scientific evidence behind it.

I cite the lack of transitory fossils for virtually all species as well as the fact that NO transitory fossils have been found for humans. Even the most rudimentary overview of the fossil record indicates that humans suddenly existed 10K years ago.

Combine that with the FACT that the abiotic theory of hydrocarbon production is now proven (see hydrocarbons on Titan for more detail) and modern evolutionary theory is turned on its ear.

The reality is, evolution takes much MORE faith than any creational theory. This is the primary reason it is contested. Most evolution theorists draw huge conclusions from tiny discoveries that could just as well be explained by many other means.

Additionally, evolutionary scientists have a very poor track record in terms of credibility. (see Nebraska Man and the 13 other 'human' transitional fossils hoaxed over the years).

    I hope that helps.

  9. Because it takes the power of creation out of God's hands and gives credit to science.

  10. I think everything that's an issue today has some controversy because of religion, when people believe in different values and morals then their opinion on certain topics are different. Religious theories say that God created all living beings at once while scientific theories (such as Darwin's theory of evolution) life formed from microorganisms. Speaking of evolution, there is no specific knowledge that says the world started this way because no one was around or had the knowledge to make a record of what was happening. Because of that there is no way to prove that it is right or wrong. There's always going to be people who believe in different things.

  11. Creationists refuse to believe the biological law, not theory, that all species must adapt to change in their environment, food, predators, etc. This fact is observed daily by scientists and if the Deists would only open their eyes, they would see it, also.

However, since the missing link hasn't been found, Darwin's theory is still a theory, not a law, but a very good theory. We are very confident that life originated from a primate ancestor in Africa.

But, Deists insist that our school kids be taught the fairy tale that Adam and Eve began the human race. But, where did Cain find his wife? Genesis has no mention of that missing fact, so we'll have to call the Book of Genesis a theory also until those missing pages show up.

  12. It's not all all controversial in science, as it's universally accepted because the evidence for it is overwhelming.

Among SOME religious people, there's the idea that the Bible is a work of science, in the sense of literally telling the natural history of the Earth.

Most religious people accept evolution, as they don't think Genesis is meant to be a scientific description.

If you think the Sky Bully created each kind of living thing, as they exist today, a few thousand years ago, then you don't accept the Earth is several billion years old, or that life arose from natural processes, and species evolved from previously-existing species.

  13. Because people don't take the time to understand it. They haven't read Darwin and have know idea what his theory really says.

  14. because it is saying pritty much "God didnt create humans or animals, evolution over time did" which controdicts [spelling?] Christianity, Islam, Judiasm [i think] and most all the religions that say a higher power created us-human beings.

but i personally think charles darwin can kiss my natural black a s s if u know what i mean =D

  15. adsmith 50 is only half right. Darwin does remove the higher power from the equation, but he leaves nothing in it's stead.

  16. cuz it takes a dump on creationism

  17. Well if you have read the bible then you would know that according to the scriptures God created man from the earth; fashioned him out of clay and breathed life into him. Darwinism contradicts what is written in the bible and suggest that human beings evolved from other organisms / life forms. The dispute between Darwinism and Religion is belief and proof. You can't expect anyone to believe in either one with out some kind of proof. And even if there was proof it is still up to the individual to believe it or not. For example someone who has been taught something their whole life won't easily accept anything new. Much less I wouldn't even classify Darwinism as a Theory. It's much more a hypothesis; a work in progress. Scientist still have not proven his case to point of calling it a theory. There is always gene manipulation and  DNA crossing with other organisms to see what you get but that still doesn't prove Darwinism either. For the most part I think I would have to classify Darwinism as a religion itself.

  18. Closed minds.

  19. People don't like it when science makes them re-think their world-view. At one time, the idea that the earth revolved around the sun was equally controversial.

  20. Well ,,,,All I  have to say is "WHY

does, mens & womans  Backs go out  at the the level 3/4  & 4/5  right where the ape 's backs were their weakest part to stand up straight ?

Thats are link to  them. and them to us ..

But Also I do believe in a God "named Mother EARTH

There is no Bible in the world that I have faith in because there words where not gods But Kings ,, I don't believe in Kings words, or some ole Queens

The wisest man was, Mose's and the

    TEN COMMANDMENTS !!! Period

Think Again People , Woman was not the first sinner ,by eating the apple

Man was, by trying to fill his ego !

By the way Don;t they say eat a apple a day to keep the Doctor away ???

  21. because darwins theory was that we have a common ancestor witth monkeys. also that everything evolves to survive. religion says that something great made the worl in six days and took a day off. thats why you dont mix religion in school

  22. all depends on the volume of the stock at mental.(what you expect from a poor stock?)

  23. The controversy is more that some religions find the theory threatening. There's too much chance involved with evolution.

Another sore point is the scientifc method. You take facts, development and explanation and then defend it. If your explanation is shown to be wrong then it is discarded of changed. That doesn't happen with many religions. Should a basic tenet of the religion questioned or shown false, then person asking is more likely to be labeled a heretic or cast out rather then change doctrine. Martin Luther is a good example.

Arther C. Clarke questioned religions that required their god to be constantly running about fixing things for people. Clarke remarked that a master craftsman would do his job then walk away knowing that things would run right and not need repair.

Ironically, the creation / evolution "debate" is often presented as having schools "present both sides." Strangely churches aren't asked to do the same. When you consider the sheer number of creation narratives found in religions, cultures and people; there are so many and are so different you don't find agreement in how things started.

  24. It's terrible, isn't it?  This is something I could discourse on all day...which is precisely why I try to stay away from these "debates".

What kills me are the people whose argument is "IF WE CAME FROM APES OR MONKEYS HOW COME THERE'S STILL APES AND MONKEYS?"  They don't understand that all modern primates had a common ancestor and that NO ONE "came" from anything that is currently alive.  I HATE when people say that...

On that note, has anyone been to the Creationist Museum yet?

    http://www.creationmuseum.org/

They have a dinosaur on display wearing a saddle, and they have a replica of Noah's Ark.  Oooooo!

EDIT:  When people reference Wikipedia articles, I wonder if they know that anyone - including Jim Bob who is the janitor at the Creationist Museum - can write articles...

  25. Because it came after.

Any belief structure written before religion would already be dominant, so religion would have to include, adapt to, or improve on it. In fact, Christianity did this with a whole range of earlier belief systems (creation myths, Judaism and the old testament, even Plato and ancient greek philosophies, local pagan beliefs, they all went in there).

Anything coming up after is more of a problem. Religions don't want to be seen to change or be improved. But this only works for a while, until the new understanding has fully penetrated a society. After that, to deny it discredits the religion. For instance - you don't see too many churches saying the sun goes around the earth any more (whereas once they all did).

  26. Because people started to open their eyes to the real world , and religions just don't like that, they try to keep control of ignorant people for their own benefit (and profit) they even say the world was created 5000 years ago , if they say that they can say anything and you still find a lot of people who believe it.

And the bible, who knows who wrote it.

  27. Most religions, including the Catholic Church, after initially opposing it, now accept that evolution did, and is occurring, (see link for full document - section 63), just like they initially thought that the Sun revolved around the Earth. Those that are stubbornly opposing evolution do so with the same blinded faith as those who thought that it was sacrilegious to suggest that the Universe was not centred around the Earth.

The objections to it are faith based, and not scientific, and the epicentre of these objections is in the bible belts of the USA. It is the evangelical christian ministers that spread the ignorance that knowing more is wrong, and that the bible has all the answers about science. Unfortunately George W Bush is their king.

They get offended that evolution clearly proves that humans are related to the other apes, such as chimps and gorillas, despite all the anatomical, physiological and DNA evidence in its favour.

  28. Some religious fundamentalists think it contradicts the Bibical story of creation. The fact is that no evidence supports their version of how man came to be, but they will stick to their view in spite of that.  The common statement from them is "Evolution is just a theory." They do not understand that a "theory" is supported by all evidence collected by all branches of science... not a hairbrained "idea."  Most do believe in the "Theory of Gravity" as one seldom sees one walking into the air off a tall building.

  29. The bible said that God ONLY created man, not other organisms. When he wrote the book, people inferred it as to saying that they were animals, though he himself created man directly. But he did not mean to interfere with the bible's teachings.

  30. It takes away from God, even though Darwin's theory can be proven and God cannot be proven. Go figure!

  31. churches like to say god was the creation of everything wile darwing sayd we all evolved from germs
