Actually all Lego. Every time I pick up the smallest box and it ends up costing me close to $20 - You basically get a child's handful.

Seriously this would be the most popular toy ever, everyone I know at least has Lego.

Do you think they put their prices up to spite us all??

How much can melted plastic really cost....

  1. Places like Kmart and Toys "r" us often sell their own brands of duplo, megablocks and leggo for a lot less than the leggo brand.

Especially for the megablock and duplo sized stuff, which little ones tend to throw around and 'post' behind every item of furniture imaginable, I find that the cheaper stuff does the job just as well.  Also stay away from the fancy designer packs and stick to your bulk packs of pieces and accessories.

The other option is checking out your local daycrares and kindies.  Sometimes they'll sell stuff off really cheap when their new budget comes in, and all it needs is a clean.

I agree it's ridiculous though, they only have the price so high because they know people will pay it!

  2. Check out Ebay. I ordered a set of 500 Duplo medium Legos for 15.00. They were lightly used so I just put them in the tub with a little bleach and hot water, then took them out to air dry.

I can't find the ones I wanted where I live, so that turned out much cheaper, and easier.

  3. You know I've thought that same thing! I LOVED legos growing up, and would love for my daughter to play with them, too. But it might just be that she plays with mine a Grandma's house, and we have other toys.

Some good options, though, are to wait until there are sales. Sometimes I see them at Shopko for up to 60 percent off. You can also possibly find used ones on ebay? As long as you aren't too keen on building what theya re actualyl wanting you to build, any random set can be fun. Good luck!

  4. It can be a bit expensive which is why we wait until they have specials at Kmart or Target.  I think its worth the money considering the effort and design thats involved with each set.  (im talking about the ones suit able for 7-10 yos).

I get angry when I see the prices of lego which have been designed for brands such as SpongeBob, Batman etc... its the same $hit, but coz it has the brand its jumps up in price...

ahh well, it has helped my son's development immensely so its one thing I dont mind spending money on....and it lasts forever!!

  5. Hate to talk Target up yet AGAIN, but did you see the bags of mega blocks, 200 peices for $29.95??? Pretty good, I thought, so in the trolley it went.

No matter how much we buy, it never seems to stop the fights!

Lol, I don't have a job. Grants the only one earning money around here. But I will happily help spend it.

  6. Yard sales, freecycle, craigslist!!!!!!  This is how I got all the legos my children have...and it's a friggin lego lovers'  paradise here! Also, my 31 yr old brother has a lego addiction.. has been so since he was 4. He buys them online straight from manufacturer.  He swears it's WAAAAY cheaper that way. Hope this helps

  7. It may be expensive but Duplo, Mega Blocks AND Lego are all at least still made in the USA. You won't have to worry about your child getting lead posioning from them like you will cheap imports.

My son has Mega Blocks and they are alot cheaper than the Lego brand. We got ours at Toys R US with a fire truck (its what they came in).He can build on the actual truck or play separate with them. They also have sets with other things or you can just buy the blocks. We paid like $25 and got a huge oversized fire truck with the blocks that were like a 50 count.

I think the Mega blocks will work with Duplo- at least, they used to.

Kid's toys are so dang expensive period though. I am floored at what companies charge for a bunch of ridiculous plastic can actually cost, even for some of the smaller sets or things. It's ridiculous.  It probably only cost the stupid toy companies like a buck to make it and they turn around and charge us parents $49.95 or some other crazy price knowing we'll pay for it...at least, some will.  I found Toys R Us (if you have it near you) will put buy one get one specials on major brand toys at Christmas and in Spring and other times. Look for their sales because you can really clean up on alot of stuff for little cash.  Those are usually the best times to go and when i usually take my son to pick out new things.  The buy one get one's are on stuff $20 and up sometimes with Little Tykes,Fisher Price and others.  Also if you sign up for the kids birthday club they send you a gift card and give your child the VIP treatment in the store when you come in with the postcard mailer.

  8. I noticed the same thing! Gosh, and I thought girls were expensive.

My girls were always just happy with blocks.. but i can't imagine if they had been the type to want Lego's.

I bought some as a Christmas gift for a relatives. $50. for a little box of nothing.

It's expensive because they know parents will buy it. Same reason Barbie's, Wii Games, Clothes.. everything is.

  9. I detest duplo and mega blocs, the only reason why is that my kids don't build so much as scatter it all over the house. We have a wagon full to the brim and I have hidden it and only bring it out in cases of dire emergency, lol like when the weather is bad (always where I live, lol) or if they just wont stop fighting, sometimes a toy they haven't seen for a while can stop the arguments. Hopefully when my kids are a little older they might use it a little better and I wont find pieces in my undie drawer the next day after they had it out, lol.
