Why Is Everyone Against Drilling?

I have seen a lot of people, Liberals in general, very against drilling. I have also heard a lot of people against the high gas prices.It is well known that even if we get started drilling, we will see an instant decrease in gas prices. Are you against drilling? If so, why?

These are the same people that whine, snivel, cry, p**s and moan about gas prices but insist that we keep buying fuel oil from the terrorsits.

The oil offshore is estimated to be about two years worth for America.and there is no place to refine it.No refineries have been built in 20 years.........

Instant price reduction...Get out of Iraq and that will happen.that is the only instant............

drilling is a red herring.. This is a false issue that American sheep are all caught up in.

Simple question:

Big oil has hundreds of thousands of acres of govt land ALREADY that they have the rights to drill on- and they wont do it, so why is off shore drilling so important?

First of all, I'd like to point out that I'm an Independent; so I'm not taking sides, just sharing my opinion (mainly because I'm sort of on both sides!).  I'm against drilling overseas because I feel that we can save so much fuel (for filling the boats that go to the other countries), and machinery and money (for drilling once we get there) if we just find places in our own country to drill.  The resources are around us; we're just not using them right now.  I believe this would help our economy, save our tax money since we wouldn't have to spend it overseas, and it would also mean less dependence on other countries for gas.

As a petroleum engineer, I feel obligated to try to educate you.

The US already drills over 60% of the wells currently being drilled in the world, with no effect whatsoever on crude prices.

The problem is the US has 3% of the world's population trying to consume 35% of the world's non-renewable energy.  The math is against you and will always be against you.

The libs have this funny idea that it will take 10 or more years to make a difference so we should nothing instead. I guess they don't care how much it will cost then. shortsighted as usual. We have to do it all to achieve energy Independence. Solar, geo, nuclear, hydrogen coal and oil. One thing that I think would help is a ban on selling our oil out on the open market. We should keep it all here and only buy what we need to supplement our own production shortage.

First you must understand that not everyone is against drilling. In fact polls show must Americans favor drilling if monitored and done reasonably. The Democratic Party is now in a tough spot. Do they continue to side with their eco-green supporters or face the anger of most Americans who want reasonable drilling to be expanded.

I am against offshore drilling because it will NOT affect gas prices in any measurable way. There is no short term, more supply solution to high gas prices.

The oil reserves of the world are decreasing, and no supplies on Earth can alleviate the world's demand for oil.

Furthermore, offshore drilling will take ATLEAST 10 years for the oil to start reaching the gas stations, and by then the prices will be through the roof.  

Here is the fact:

82% of offshore drilling concessions to oil companies over the last fifteen years by democrats is unused.

Oil companies DO NOT even use their existing offshore drilling opportunities!!

No, the truth is that the Republican party is using this lie as method of attacking democrats and undercutting their base.
