I just got my stereo system installed in my car and my fuse keeps blowing. I have a 10 inch woofer with an amp thats pushing 1250 but the amp is turned down. I also have 200 watt amp wire put in. I have another amp that pushes 200 watts. Should I Install the other amp or just buy some more amp wire that pushes more wattage??

  1. What size fuse do you have?  Is it the inline fuse or the fuse in your amp?

If you are using a wire that is too small for the amount of current your system is demanding then it is good that the fuse is blowing.  If it didn't blow the wire would get too hot and possibly melt.  This could start a fire in your car.

The inline fuse is there to protect the wire and not the amp.  So do not ever replace it with a fuse larger then the current capacity of the wire.  To give you an example, an 8 gauge wire can handle up to 100A so never use a fuse larger then 100A.

This link will tell you what gauge wire you should be using.

    Good Luck!!!

  2. Oh jeez! Start with making sure you have the proper wiring for the load, even if the amp is turned down. You could have a short somewhere too. Make sure all of your conections are good and tight, no bare or exposed wires. Nothing twisted and taped together - use only the proper connectors. Good luck.
