Question:

Why Is My XP Computer Better Than My Vista Laptop?

by  |  earlier

They both have 80gb.

They were both upgraded from 512 mb ram to 1gb ram

My vista is from a year ago and my XP is from almost 4 years ago version 2002.

Why is it that my XP computer is so much better, it loads faster, and is more efficient.

What can I do to improve my vista laptop?

  1. lisen vista is a advanced and xp 2002 is old.obviously is it is latest than it have advance things.now it depends on you which one you should choose, but in both there is not much difference.my suggection is to use xp for fast.

  2. Vista isnt finished.

Windows 2000 was finished when xp was released. XP was just a small expansion of windows 2000.

Vista is a whole new beast.

Wait for the next operating system from windows.

Would you rather have something thats more advanced but none of those advanced features are working correctly because they are not finished or have an older operating system that was completed when released.

  3. Vista needs 2GB to run well. And like all new software, you need modern hardware.

A lot of people use Vista on old, outdated computers. What do they expect the result to be?

  4. Simply put, Vista is c**p.

To make Vista usable, you really need 2GB of memory, even then, it may not run faster than your 1GB XP.

  5. You can try this software called tuneup utilities 2008 it works with vista . it give you more space and better start-up time. Some the space used by vista stuff not need like copies of old files and updates not need.I had a 40 gig hard drive and 25 gigs were used by vista. but i used the software and it freed about 10gigs. you can  use it also on the XP computer too. just download the trial version

  6. 1 gig ram with XP is excellent, Vista, a much more demanding OS runs on 1 gig, but will improve if you ad 1 gig or more ram. Also the HD capasity is greatly reduced on a Vista machine, since Vista is using several gb for recovery.

My suggestion is: Ad more ram, and get an external HD. Move you space demanding files like photos and music to the ext HD, keep your internal HD clean.

The cost should be no more than $200, on sale more like $150, or get it online.

Hope this helps, and don't forget: Run an adware scan once a week, on BOTH machines in addition to your virus scan.

Here's a fantastic firewall: Comodo Firewall Pro, works great with Vista.

  7. The biggest difference is Vista has fancier graphics than XP. There are other security enhancements and improvements I could go into, but I'm trying to keep it simple here. Because of this Vista needs a dedicated video card, or at least fast integrated graphics to run it. Vista is also a newer operating system so many of the hardware and softwares currently out may or may not work with Vista. Because XP and it's underling technology has been around longer there is more hardware and software compatible with it. Hence, many people are putting off buying Vista because the computing experience with XP tends to be more satisfying. In perhaps 3 or 4 years, Vista will be the better operating system because Microsoft will stop supporting it and all of the software and hardware will be Vista compatible, not to mention the graphics on Vista look better. :)
