Question:

Why Is There Still A Price Difference Between US & Canadian Cars?

I live in Canada and I was looking at getting a Honda Accord EX-V6. In the US the car costs around $26,000, but in Canada it costs a little over $31,000.

I know in the past companies would say that the US-Canadian exchange rate lead to a price differences between the two countries, but with the exchange rates now being almost on par with each other why is there such a gap?

  1. That is odd--my brother used to buy registered current year Dodge Intrepid at a fraction of what the auction cars were costing. The only hitch they were Chrysler Intrepid and they were on average about 1100 dollars cheaper than the Dodge counterpart--you just had to get used to the Harley wings on an Intrepid. I put my wife in one and she still has it.

  2. Its called import duty, tarrifs and taxes.  Canadian import tarrifs are VERY high.

thats how you get your "free" health care though.

  3. I know that Canada has some extra requirements for auto makers which will add to the cost plus shipping will be higher.

  4. Everything is more expensive in Canada than in the USA. Somebody told me that a pack of cigarettes is $11 in Canada. That's about twice what they are here.
