Jose Rizal became the Philippine National Hero for a simple reason that he has accounts and journals. His life is well documented and photographed compared to other heroes. He writes everyday and even keeps lottery tickets and receipts.

Actually Rizal made himself as the national hero of the Philippines. he fought the Spaniards by writing his novels (noli me tangere and el filibusterismo) but it doesn't mean that he wanted rebellion. he was executed not because he was accused that he was the one who founded the rebellion movement during that time..i forgot if its that propaganda or la liga.. he admitted that he was a member that in the first days of that but in the end his not active anymore..
