  1. BEC is correct. The children of Prince Edward are legally Prince/ Princess with the style HRH. They chose to style their children as the son/daughter of an Earl but legally they are Prince and Princess.

All male line grandchildren of the monarch are prince/princess with the style of HRH.

This is why Princess Anne's children do not have titles. Their father had none and refused one when offered.

  2. decided against having a formal title

  3. A Princess has to be once removed from the crown.  This means they are either the daughter of the monarch, or the daughter of the children of the monarch.

  4. i'm not sure who that is. . .sorry!

  5. I have no idea who Lady Louse is...clue us in please.

  6. It was decided at the time of Edward's marriage to Sophie Rhys-Jones that any children would not be royally titled and bear the titles and stylings of a British noble. This is part of an effort to cut down on the number of royals.

"At the time of their wedding it was decided, with the couple's agreement, that any children they had should not be given the style His or Her Royal Highness, but would have courtesy titles as sons or daughters of an earl. "

Technically, the children ARE royal prince and princess.Royal-watchers have said that upon adulthood, the children may wish to use the HRH designation.I have read that Elizabeth is the one who wished for the children not to be titled HRH,so we'll have to wait and see.I think that this is an attempt to cut down on the numbers so that expenditures are less.

  7. These are the legal titles of the four members of the family of the youngest child of Queen Elizabeth.

    -----------

    (1) His Royal Highness The Prince Edward Antony Richard Louis, Earl of Wessex, Viscount Severn, Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Honorary Member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty

    -------------------

    (2) Her Royal Highness The Princess Edward Antony Richard Louis, Countess of Wessex, Viscountess Severn

    -------------------

    (3) Her Royal Highness Princess Louise of Wessex

    -------------------

    (4) His Royal Highness Prince James of Wessex

    ======================================...

These are the preferred short names that the family chooses to use for communications.

    (1) Prince Edward Earl of Wessex

    (2) Sophie, Countess of Wessex

    (3) Lady Louise Windsor

    (4) James Windsor, Viscount Severn

    -------

The last name seems a little long for a baby, but the honorific "Viscount Severn" comes from the River Severn (Welsh: Afon or  Hafren). The mother is Welsh. Wessex is the far more important title as far as English heritage goes, so Edward must use it for his short name, but they emphasize the title for the son to honor the mother's heritage in every communication.

    -------

The family feels that Prince and Princes & His/Her Royal Highness is awkward title for children. It's a personal decision.

    -------

    (1) Naturally, Prince William and Prince Harry don't have a choice since they are the sons of Charles, Prince of Wales.

    (2) Andrew and Sarah didn't see a problem with  Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York.

    (3) In the case of Phillip and Zara Phillips they are not Prince and Princess because the titles only go one generation via a woman. The Queen is believed to have offered Mark Phillips a peerage on his wedding day, which he turned down; probably at the specific wish of Princess Anne
