Why Los Angeles Lakers should opt for Tracy McGrady?
Basketball pundits say Tracy McGrady and the Los Angeles Lakers are quite alike, hence Lakers should really consider taking in McGrady. The two have an amazing history, they like winning and most importantly both have solemnly sworn to the Gods of basketball to remain faithful to them.
Tracy however due to several severe injuries has not passed the first round of playoffs since a long time. Regardless, one cannot deny the fact that his immense skills as a basketball player brings life to the court, and continues to give his fans a wonderful game, even if he cannot manage to play more than one.
McGrady played for the New York Knicks briefly this year under a one year contract. Sadly the Knicks could not make it to the playoffs this year snatching another chance for McGrady to get hold of a NBA Championship Title.
Tracy recently confirmed via Twitter that he might want to play for four teams in the league, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Lakers. Experts say if he wants to go past the first and see the light or have a chance of tasting what the gold plated championship trophy tastes like he should opt for the Lakers.
Lakers might just be the best option for Tracy, taking their past record and current record of two championships back to back. However the decision is in Tracy’s hand, if he will be okay with more of a bench role.
Tracy can certainly provide the Lakers when they will need short-scoring in a few minutes, he will be like Nate Robinson was to the Boston Celtics only with a better scoring average and game play.
Los Angeles Lakers have been entirely dependent on Kobe Bryant ever since he arrived in 2006. Even with his broken finger the team was left trembling when rumours speculated that he would not be playing in this year’s playoffs, although he did play the entire 2010 season with a broken finger and ended up leading the team into another victory.
Hence experts say that the Lakers are in dire need of an athlete who could be used as a backup for Kobe and who better could take the role than the veteran shooting guard, Tracy McGrady.
Nonetheless it does not change McGrady’s history of numerous injuries which led him into missing a lot of games. McGrady only played 30 games last season because he had to get an operation done on his knee which he injured in 2007, in a game against the Utah Jazz. Yet he came back strong this year and kept a scoring average of 9.4 points per game with 3.7 rebounds per game.
One more reason for the Lakers to recruit Tracy will be because the free-agency has not much left to offer anymore, with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami Heat followed by Carlos Boozer to the Bulls teaming up with Derrick Rose.
The free-agency has two worn out veterans left besides McGrady that Lakers might want to consider, number one being Shaquille O’Neal who will never join the Lakers due to his rivalry with Kobe, Allen Iverson whose ego could collide with Kobe starting a third world war, and that is pretty much it.
The Lakers definitely need to make a quick move before someone else steals Tracy in the free-agency arms race, it might be ludicrous to say but if the Heat signs him up, they will only grow stronger and if the Boston Celtics somehow persuade him to join in that will only make them stronger with their elite class veterans.
Not that the Lakers are not strong already but their backup is considerably averaged compared to the current strong teams on the NBA. Sending a contract to McGrady as soon as possible will not only be great for them but it will make their future stronger than it already is.
