Why Mark Spitz complain no one invited him in Olympic, can he just buy the ticket himself?

It was not about buying a ticket, it was more about him feeling that his record of 7 golds in won Olympic games were going to be broken and that nobody invited him to be there for it.  They were not recognizing his accomplishment of 7 gold medals in one game.

When did he complain? In the interview I saw Spitz said he would not attend and pose for photos because it was Michale Phelps' turn in the spotlight.

I believe that he could have afforded the ticket. But I believe that he wished that the Olimpic comitee would have appreciated everything he has done for the sport and would have invited him. So many people were invited, politicians , business men , why do all those people diserve an invitation and such a great swimmer like Mark Spitz not?
