Why Monta Ellis is the best option for the New York Knicks? NBA Trade Speculation (Part 2)
Monta Ellis would come cheaper
The second added advantage with Monta Ellis is that as compared to Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, the combo point guard could acquired at a much lower cost than the above mentioned two players.
In addition to the price, there would be less negotiations involve in obtaining Ellis, who’ll be more suitable for the New York Knicks, which don’t have much resources to pull in a high-price player like Howard or Paul.
The reason behind less and uncomplicated talks for acquiring Ellis, is new head coach Mark Jackson, for him defence is the foremost thing. So this approach would definitely push Jackson to look towards three prospects from the
draft, Landry Fields, Iman Shumpert and Toney Douglas.
What separates Ellis from Howard and Paul is that Monta is more sort of a productive role player, while the two stars are considered as franchise players. No one can deny the fact that Ellis is a serious offensive threat, but it’s
his shooting propensity that limit his play and eventually lowers his cost too in the league.
Knicks ‘Plan B’ Steve Nash
The Knicks plan does not only include Howard and Paul, it also involves Phoenix Suns Steve Nash, but he is their “Plan B”. The winner of back to back National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player in 2005 and 2006 still is
as threatening as a player in his mid 20s.
The 6 foot 3 point guard has a tremendous command over passing and had freakish alertness of the court. His inclusion in the Knicks could surely make them a title contender or even a title winner.
However, the major drawback of having Nash in the squad at this point in time is that he is 37 years old now and close to his retirement. Although Nash inclusion in the Knicks could surely solve their problem, but it would be time
being solution for the franchise.
Once Nash takes retirement, the search for the vacant spot would begin again and that time doesn’t seem much far. The Knicks require a player that could hold onto the duties for a longer period, because more time a player spends,
better the chemistry becomes.
Additionally, Nash wouldn’t be coming cheaper not as expensive as Howard and Paul, but still paying a good price to acquire a player for a short tenure, is definitely not a wise decision. So it’s better for the Knicks to pursue
Ellis, who is just 25 years old and has a long career ahead of him and also have the talent of running the point.
