Why Monta Ellis is the best option for the New York Knicks? NBA Trade Speculation (Part 3)
Monta Ellis can flourish as a point guard under Mike D Antoni
Bringing Monta Ellis under the offensive system of Mike D Antoni means that he could flourish as a point guard. Ellis loves to keep the ball with him and as a shooting guard, which was the thing that went against him at the Golden
State Warriors.
Ellis can get rid of this problem, once under Mike D Antoni’s seven seconds or less system. Under this system Monta would be compelled to keep the ball for no more than seven seconds. The beauty of this system is that it allows
players to score more, as they get more possessions then before. With the scoring going up, so does the confidence.
The perfect example in this regard was Carmelo Anthony, who joined the Knicks at the start of this year. Anthony didn’t follow the system and thus the team also suffered the consequences in the form of losing several games in the
last phase of the previous regular-season.
Monta Ellis can play at two positions
The upfront need of the New York Knicks is a point guard and to go along with him is a centre. At the same time the shooting guard position is still having question marks over it.
Although Landry Fields did well in the previous season, but he still needs another season to prove whether he could be a permanent starter or not. Fields has the potential and works hard too, but it’s the real problem is Landry’s
lack of aggression from the offense. This rules him out of the contest for taking the two guard position in the future.
On the other hand, Iman Shumpert and Toney Douglas looked impressive, but the problem with these two is that the Knicks haven’t still figured it out what to expect from them. This brought us once again to Monta Ellis, who has the
capacity of providing stability at both ends (point guard and shooting position).
Although, Ellis cannot handle both positions at the same time and also cannot fulfil the centre position, but as mentioned earlier, Monta would do well under Mike D Antoni’s seven seconds or less system.
So with Ellis in the side means the Knicks would have to take care of their centre position, instead of looking for three at the same time.
