Why Monta Ellis is the best option for the New York Knicks? NBA Trade Speculation (Part 4)
The time for the Knicks to act is now
With Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, the two superstars on whom the New York Knicks plan to build their future, having spent quite some time with each other, their chemistry is bound to improve next season. The enhanced
co-ordination and between the two forwards will allow Ellis enough breathing space to settle.
Add to that fact that Chauncey Billups, the veteran point guard is also there to take the burden, the picture gets perfect for Ellis.
Another reason what makes this time right for landing Ellis in the side is that Anthony is already 27 years old and has had a knee surgery this offseason, while Amar’e is 28 and recuperating from his back injury.
In case, the two vaunted stars fail to carry the Knicks due to injuries, the presence of Ellis will provide the Knicks with the oomph factor on the front court. Time and again, Ellis has shown in the Warriors colours that he can
single handedly turn the game on its head. He was among the top five scorers in the league last season and with a team that thrives on offense, these numbers are bound to improve.
Although, Paul is good friends with both Amar’e and Anthony, but the Knicks cannot afford to wait until the summer and take chance with a meagre salary cap. If the Knicks do that, it could effectively mean that they’ll lose their
chances to become title contenders until 2012-2013.
Monta Ellis opens door for other additions
Out of Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, the Knicks have been keener to get Paul, as it helps them assemble their “big three” like Miami Heat and others. However, in pursuit of C3P, they can further weaken their already fragile bench
strength.
Most of the quality role player had to bow out due to the extravagant Carmelo Anthony deal last season and later in the season, it was a accepted fact that the Knicks were missing quality role players around Amar’e and Anthony.
However, with Ellis, the Knicks would get the financial flexibility to acquire one or two good role players.
Ellis gives the Knicks lot more options than Paul, Howard and Nash, so it’s better for N.Y. to keep their options open with Monta, rather than getting stuck with their “big three” dream.
