Why http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasir-Jamshed-c78752 and Umar Akmal should be in the Test team - Part One
Over the last six decades, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Yousuf-c77465. However, batting has never been their main strength, in the
presence of some outstanding fast bowlers, who terrorised the batsmen all around the world in their respective eras.
Since early-2000s, the Green Shirts have faced a drought of good young batsmen, with the country’s domestic cricket structure failing to produce players with solid techniques. Many talented players got their chance at the international
stage though. The list includes the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Hameed-c2811 and many more, but most of them failed to deliver the goods at the highest level of the sport due to one reason or the other.
The situation however, seems to be ameliorating since the last couple of years, with the emergence of some God-gifted batsmen, who have proved their credentials at the global level. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890 have been doing exceedingly
well in the five-day format since making their debuts in 2010.
The selectors must be given credit for persisting with Azhar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafiq-c89281, who have enjoyed full support from the team management as well.
However, one must criticise the think-tank for not making the most of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595’s abilities so far. According to most of the sporting pundits, the 22-year-old cricketer from Lahore is the most talented batsmen in the country at the
moment, having all the ingredients to have a wonderful career ahead.
Despite possessing extra-ordinary abilities, some analysts are of the opinion that the stylish stroke-maker is yet to fulfil his potential.
Pakistan’s former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ramiz-Hasan-Raja-c83872, is one of the biggest fans of the budding cricketer but he also believes that Umar needs to show more application in order to be successful in international cricket.
"If I’m being brutally honest then I’m disappointed with Umar’s growth as a batsman because with the kind of talent and ability he has, Umar should have done a lot better than what he has produced so far," Raja feels.
There is no doubt about the fact that Umar has the tendency to throw away his wicket at times but his batting-order needs to be questioned as well. The right-hander is usually slotted to bat at number six, where he is required to play
big shots all the time, or the youngster comes in to bat if the team has lost some early wickets and consolidation work is needed under immense pressure.
"It's a matter of the batting order that I'm not able to score a hundred," Umar said earlier this year. "When I am batting down the order, sometimes I have to bat in a crisis when the top order has stumbled and sometimes I get fewer
overs to bat otherwise I have the tendency to score in three figures."
Many former cricketers relate Akmal with India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 has always been given confidence by
the team management and the captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028. Over the last couple of years, Kohli has been batting at number 3 in the limited-over formats, even in the presence of some great players.
