Why Norway is not EU member?

Because Norway has a great internal economy. Their living standards are one of the highest in the world. Their culture is rich, their education is subsidized by the government and health is free.  

As for the membership, the  political parties are divided on this idea. Some onthe  left oppose integration while the right wants to go on with it.

My opinion is, they really do not quite need that form of integration. They have a great oil industry which they have internationalized in a very optimal way.  I guess they could be part of EU , but is not really economically convenient for them just yet and the division amongst left and right parties makes this issue yet  more conflictive.

Because Norway can not decide if they want it or not.  Certain things must be met... or changed for them to a member.  Here is a link that explains it.

Because there are a lot of peasants in Norway with strong opposition against it.  They are striving to protect their own assets, but do not understand the consequences of not cooperating with the rest of Europe.

Norway is not a member of the European Union because, in my opinion, because it represents a grave breach to our sovereign right to govern our own country and (among other things) protect our natural resources against ruthless exploitation from foreign powers. Were I live, we have a saying: "You should be able to work together with your neighbor without having to marry her"!

We appreciate the free trade between sovereign nations, but can not accept to be forced into another union after having spent 400 years in another one!

My guess is that they want to keep their autonomy as a nation.

They wouldn't want to endanger their social benefits  and adopt Maastricht's pact. And why should they?

Norway has a strong internal market and is not as trade dependent on its neighbors as other states. The downsides of the EU are significant as the benefits. More economically powerful states must compensate for the weaker ones and the influx of free trade does have its issues at times.

To correct an earlier response: the right (conservative) wishes for more state sovereignty while the left (liberal) wishes for more integration into a single European entity. NOT the other way around.

I'm just guessing but I'd say because their citizens decided not to join.
