Why Pakistan Cricket has hit rock bottom – the fall and a possible resurgence (Part 6)
It will also improve the image of Pakistan cricket, for presently the PCB stands nowhere. It is not respected and it is not taken seriously. To see Pakistan cricket deteriorating at such a fast pace
is heart rending and needs immediate attention. By making naive decisions such as allowing the PCB chief to remain in power for another two years, this government would effectively be giving a verdict to send Pakistan cricket to the gallows.
No one wants that, not at least the Pakistani cricket fans who continue to support their cricketing heroes in the face of adversity. These fans have a resilient quality of being there for their national
side, for appreciating the fact that their team lost a match gracefully. What pains them the most is when they see their beloved sport being turned into a dismal performance of an amateur circus troupe. It is not in the least entertaining.
Even the infamous Dr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasim-Ashraf-c78712 did his fair share of contribution to Pakistan cricket. To say that he was unpopular amongst the masses is quite a different story. He managed to handle a number
of controversies involving Pakistan cricketers without inciting much controversy, which was commendable.
The central secretariat for the World Cup 2011 was moved to Lahore during his tenure and he was unanimously elected as the convener of the World Cup 2011. Most importantly he established a pension
scheme for Test Cricketers and created a Welfare Fund for them. Former Test cricketers, who had retired from Cricket were paid monthly pensions ranging from Rs 15000 to Rs 25000.
Now Mr. Ijaz Butt, on the contrary, has wreaked pure havoc during his time at the PCB, and for the sake of my dear readers I shall not repeat those past follies, for I have written quite enough memoirs
for Mr. Butt to last a life time, but words cannot do justice to the man.
The question then arises, that is the government ready to allow Mr. Ijaz Butt to continue like a rampaging bull in a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/China-c40996 shop, wreaking havoc in his path? Is the patron in chief of Pakistan cricket
ready to give up on what can be a glorious future for cricket just so that he can please a personal friend, who happens to be related to one of his cabinet ministers? Is the government so naive that it will put the whims and wishes of one man above the wishes
of 170 million people? Is Mr. President ready to jeopardize the future of hundreds of potential cricketers for this country, or will he rise up to the challenge and take necessary steps to rescue http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket from dire straits?
We do not know. What we do know is, that by taking these steps and turning PCB into a world class institution Mr. Zardari will be making his place in the hearts and minds of millions of people who
will not remember him for his swiss accounts, but how he single- handedly saved Pakistan cricket from the rot that was setting in. He will not only be engaging in cricket diplomacy, but by making it a proper institution Mr. Zardari will be seeing to it that
Pakistan cricket reaches its rightful conclusion on the path of glory.
If he decides against it and allows Mr. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 to continue with his rampage, then Mr. Zardari will effectively be shooting himself in both feet and buying his government a ticket for an early
exit. Mr. Zardari cannot afford to test the patience of almost 140 million cricket fans in the country who are desperately waiting for an end to the consistent Butt slaps they have had to endure in the last two years of their rather unpleasant existence.
