  1. McCain needed two things covered in his VP choice...

    1) They had to appear to conservatives to be REALLY conservative;

    2) They could not be seen to be too closely tied to the Bush administration.

    I have been thumbed down many times for saying Romney and Rice were not the right choices, politically, for McCain. Romney's faith and his perceived liberal stances (and shaky stances on abortion) counted hugely against him, and Rice was WAY too close to the Bush admin.

    So...Palin, it seems, is a big ol' conservative in RED land and she's about as far removed from the Bush admin as you can get.

  2. I'm thinking he chose a woman to try to court the Hilary vote.  Also, she is powerful in Alaska and in favor of drilling for oil there.

    Also, she is a "hockey Mom", as she says, which could appeal to that voter base of conservative women.

    Romney is Mormon, and that seems to be an issue.

    Romney's record as Gov. of Mass., when fully released, would not be helpful to McCain.  It doesn't bear scrutiny, Big Dig, poor economy, etc.

    Romney's father couldn't run for Pres. cause he was born in Mexico due to His father running from the law rather than giving up four of his five wives.  That's not Mitt's fault, but would be bad press.

    Those are some of the reasons, I think.  Given only the two, he probably made the better choice.   sigh.
