Paris Dakar rally since its inception has taken place in a desert terrain I want to know what are the reasons for Paris Dakar rally 2011's scheduling in desert every time?

The Paris Dakar rally originated in 1978, a year after racer Thierry Sabine got lost in the desert and decided that it would be a good location for a regular rally.
