  1. This site in the rural town of Marne-la-Vallée was chosen because of its close proximity to Paris and its central location within Western Europe. This location was estimated to be within 4 hours of driving for 68 million people and within two hours of flight for a further 300 million.

  2. Didier gave a very concise and correct answer, i worked on the project in the late 80's. land was cheaper there and the French gov gave more guarantees than the other countries involved (Spain mainly), it has had a huge impact on the region, there is a TGV station (fast trains, in addition to and RER station local to Paris), it is between 2 airports, quite a few large companies have established their headquarters in the Marne la Vallee city limits, also new school, housing, not to forget the factory outlets and the hypermarkets etc.

The region was nicknamed the Cuvette de l'ile de France, there were fields of beetroot there and nothing for miles, very flat landscape and exposed to winds etc.

  3. To comment on Didier's ideas, it would take about 4 hours to get there from the other side of Paris using public transport, and not a lot less in the car at rush hour! The 68m people must come from the entire populations of France and Belgium combined, but most of France is well over 4hrs drive from there (although much of Belgium is within 4hrs), and Germany is over 4h away if you try to stick to the speed limit. Also, it may be 2hrs flying time to Paris (CDG or Orly) from many countries, but to get to Eurodisney from either of those would then take longer than the flight...

So, basically either the info that is given above is incorrect, or Disney made a huge f*** up because they used very inaccurate data!

One of the main reasons I haven't gone there since I've lived in France is that I can't be bothered to spend 6-8hrs in the car in a non-stop traffic jam in order to get there and back.
