  1. I think,because a lion is strong,swift,& cunning,so he gotm this added for such resoning.


  2. It would have been "Coeur de Lion", in his day as he spoke French. as did most of his court.

    He won this name for his fierceness and fearlessness in battle against the Saracens in the Crusades to free Jerusalem from the Infidels.

  3. He spend all but six months of his reign as a crusader doing duty outside of England and winning impressive victories. A soldier, and a good one. His people considered him a hero.

    He is still considered a hero by the British, and so, ironically, is Saladin - the Muslim opponent of the crusaders, who was both a great general and a gentleman.  How times have changed!
