Why Roger Federer is still better than Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic? – Tennis Special
Former world number one, Roger Federer, is a true legend. Even his critics accept that fact but what makes him one of the best players in the era is his ability to play world class matches at the age of 30. He is still up there
at the 3rd spot in the world ranking and bidding to reclaim his throne from the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic.
The problem with Spanish number one, Rafael Nadal and the Serb, Djokovic, is that they are heroes of their 20’s. The way they grind their body with so much running at the court will only help them last in the Top-10 for few more
years whereas the class of Federer in eternal. His manoeuvres across the sidelines are negligible, mostly standing still and ousting his opponents in majestic manner.
Nadal is considered to be a superhuman with his ability to run across the court and play deep beyond the baseline throughout the match. It might a perfect technique for a 25-years-old man but when he will grow in age and his stamina
will decline, he will not be able to deliver similar results just like a six-hour marathon grand finale of the Australian Open 2012. If he can perform like this in his 30’s, he is a truly superhuman but practically speaking, he definitely needs to revamp his
technique in order to play tennis for longer period of time.
Djokovic is a classy player with a great sense of humour, especially his post-match interviews are a treat to watch but he is forced to act like a monster at the courts by his arch rival, Nadal. He is noted to have said that his
‘toes were bleeding’ in the fifth set of the Australian Open final. He has won seven gruelling battles on trot against Nadal since last year and that definitely takes a lot of courage and determination. He is forced to turn into a ‘beast’ in order to overpower
Nadal and that can dismantle his game play as well; leaving lesser number of years in his professional career. If Nadal wasn’t born, Djokovic was sure to have lasted longer.
Above all is the champion of all times, Federer. He has carved himself to play for a longer period time. Although, he is not able to meet the stamina of two superior players, Nadal and Djokovic, he still has the ability to manoeuvre
the ball at his will, can play those eye-startling winners down the line and manufacture shots that are absolutely incredible. Winning the first set against Nadal in the semi-finals of the Australian Open was a proof of his ability to overpower young stamina
with his perpetual class. No one will be like him in their 30’s especially not the reigning top two players of the world.
Form is temporary but class is permanent. Federer might have lost some stamina but his class is still up there, challenging others to have a go at him. He is definitely out there to prove something and there is no doubt that he
can climb his way up to the top rank – a place where belongs to!
