  1. Honestly, how many U.S. citizens' first gut reaction to this headline was, "OMG, they just invaded GEORGIA, just south of South Carolina!? WHAT THE FVCK?"

    ?

Political and economic purpose. The economy is always most important, and politics follows right after. In short, the only reason Russia would want political influence over the region in the first place is because it is economically beneficial to them.

  2. Russia had to protect civilians from genocide according to its obligations as the peacekeeper approved by UN.

The right question is why Geoergian attacked S.Ossetia?

They broke the peace treaty, ruined the town, killed more than 10 russian peacekeepers, about 2000 civlians.

And it is probably the US behind this attack. My question about US involvement is still unanswered.

  3. They attacked because they think Atlanta sucks.

  4. Well, the legend is Russians had given a lot of Russian passports to Ossetic people and then when Georgia attacked, Georgian troops actually attacked Russian citizens so Russia was to help South Ossetia in the conflict.

  5. because they goddamned felt like it....thats why....

  6. Russia did not attacked Georgia. Georgia attacked Osetia, ruined 7 citys  and demolished Hospitals. Russia answered an SOS from Osetia and pushed Georgians soldiers  from Osetia. They haven't been interested in Geaorgia territory. Only in Peace.

Russia is big and rich, strong and does not need more space on the Earth.

  7. It is both political and economical...

Also envy that have been accumulating for many years, if you look at history Russia tried to get Georgia many times for many years but they could not succeed against Georgian people.

  8. Supposedly Georgia decided to crackdown on Russian supporters in the South Ossetia region (why they would suddenly want to i have no clue, but i'm sure there's a reason), and seeing as Russia considers South Ossetia part of it (even though it technically is not) and calls the citizens of South Ossetia Russian citizens, they didn't take too kindly to that. Ergo, kaboom.

  9. Political. It wants to send a message to ex-Soviet republics that it is not playing nice when it comes to them joining NATO or the EU
