  1. I would like to assess performances over an year instead of over one series. Test match batting performances on a scale of 0-1,000 during the last one year are as under:

    Sehwag (1000); Gambhir (562); Ganguly (549); Laxman (547); Tendulkar (518); Irfan Pathan (432); Dravid (386); Wasim Jaffer (384); Yuvraj Singh (344); Dhoni (308); Karthik (189); Sreesanth (147); Kumble (147); Harbhajan (117); Ishant (87); RP Singh Jr (65); Zaheer Khan (50); Munaf Patel (0).

Dravid should be dropped after this series. Raina may be brought in. Irfan Pathan should play every match as an all-rounder.

Why are we talking of dropping Kumble ? He continues to be a top class Indian bowler. My ratings of indian test match bowlers is given below:

Harbhajan (676); Kumble (672); Ishant Sharma (447); Zaheer Khan (398); Irfan Pathan (385); RP Singh Jr (351); Munaf Patel (240); Virender Sehwag (230); Sreesanth (226); Yuvraj Singh (110); Ganguly (54); Laxman (14); Tendulkar (4). Gambhir, Dravid, Jaffer, Dhoni and Karthik (0).

But we certainly need couple of great bowlers like Brett Lee and Mura Lee. Leave alone Gangu Lee.

  2. Good Q. Since I am not asking for any one 's retirement, I do not think I should make any comments. In my opinion, if you retire these, Test cricket team of India will crumble.

But agree that they are ALL at par with each other.

Including Rahul and LaXman. Kartick too.

  3. because whenever there is a boomerang, the weakest link is targetted first, ganguly is technically the weakest link irrespective of the performance, he is vulnerable to outside the off stump and ribcage deliveries !

second important point is that he is in the bad books of some people after Chappel Ganguly episode!

he is more outargeous than the other people and the people who are more outrageous get more attention !

these might be the reasons of Ganguly's appearance on the top of that hit list!

    god bless!

  4. Good Question! I too agree that some of the players other than Dada are also not performing....a team is made up of 11 players and every player has his own part to play! The defeat in the 1st test match of the on-going series between India vs Sri Lanka, wasn't only Dada's fault, nearly every Indian batsmen failed to perform! So why to blame dada alone???

  5. All of them will be either dropped or they will voluntarily retire in course of time.  As far as ODI is concerned, days of Ganguly, Dravid, Laxman and KLumble are over.  While KUmble has voluntarily  and honourably retired, other are still hanging on expecting a call back.  Since many youngsters are waiting in the wings their callm back to ODI side will be out of question.out,   However, all of them will continue to play test cricket some more time.

  6. I agree with your point but not necessarily the analysis.  I think every single player in the Indian team should be considered droppable irrespective of their performance.

One of the reasons Australia have become a great team is for precisely this reason.  Despite having greats like Gilchrist, Ponting, Brett Lee, etc. all of them have been dropped even when they were doing well. At the current level of cricket and the intensity of playing schedules it is not humanly possible for any player to play every match in every series year after year and maintain peak form.  I absolutely salute Dhoni for recognizing this and taking a break - of his own choice.  Our oldies who are much older and further away from peak than Dhoni don't seem to have figured this out.  This alone makes me have a lot of hope for Dhonis future and I hope he manages to spread this attitude to the rest of the team and selectors.

Someone mentioned that the team will crumble without some of the key names in the squad.  The reason we should worry about the squad crumbling is precisely because we have never ever dropped key players for a few matches and given youngsters a chance.  It is very hard for us to know the right person to someday replace Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, etc. because we are not willing to occasionally experiment. The time to experiment is not when these greats are on their last legs and on the verge of senility.  The time to experiment is when they still are around and doing well so that we don't have to experiment under pressure.  You notice how every time we do an experiment like dropping Sewag or Kumble it is not because we have a choice but because they are collapsing and we don't have a fallback plan if the replacement does not work. If instead we bring in an occasional young player when the senior is not doing well we can always quickly go back to the senior.  At the end it is about the team and its future, not the fates and records of individual players.  Today Australia is truly a team and India is a collection of outstanding individuals. And they have no problem keeping a constant pipeline of replacement cricketers for their current stars - because they keep experimenting with youngsters and dropping stars.  This for a country whose entire population is less than the number of people born in India every year.  It is not a talent deficit, it is a strategy and management deficit.

I don't have any special criticism of Ganguly that I don't have for others. But I do have special praise for Dhoni for the reason I mentioned earlier. I wish more people would drop themselves occasionally to work on their technique, temperament, etc.  You can't do that in the middle of a high pressure test series while playing for your country. But a great deal of the criticism also goes to the fans who seem to consider it a blood insult if their favorite cricketer is dropped for even one game. That is part of what contributes to making the selectors to experiment too I am sure.

  7. Because he Gsnguly is not fully fit

  8. Its non of ur businesses

  9. Good point. Why Ganguli's name comes first when they think of dropping anyone? It is true that a drastic change in the team may not be a wise decision, but gradually they all meaning from Sachin, Dravid, and Kumble's replacements can be tested gradually. For example in the third test Sharma can replace Ganguli, or Sachin. When it comes to Sachin we all feel that he is going to score tons in the next match but that never happens. How long can we keep on dreaming is the question. What I don't understand is that why we are so reluctant in accepting what is inevitable?

  10. Its called "smart politics", & its our selectors' speciality

  11. Yes that's the million dollar question now. Ganguly deserves another chance.

  12. BECAUSE GANGUALLY CONTINUOUSLY NOT PLAYING WELL.I think dravid should also be dropped,SACHIN can play better and KUMBLE is a captain so its formality to keep him in team

  13. all of them cant be dropped at one go

  14. dont know.. i always think that y people force ganguly to resign

  15. The only obvious reason is that the process in which the selection is made is biased. The criteria should be the same for everyone, and for the same fault, the punishment should also be the same. So, why is it that only Ganguly's name is the 1st one to be called up for expulsion from the team, when each and every senior is failing to perform? This is nothing short of sheer hypocracy according to me. The rationality of the entire selection process can easily be doubted.

Another strong reason behind such an unfair treatment is the fact that the system is plagued with politics. Sourav's outspoken and aggressive nature has earned him many enemies, who would be glad to see the end of his career, and would try their best to do so. No other cricketer dared to speak the harsh truths as boldly as Ganguly, and that's why he is being made the target of revenge by some of the authorities in charge of the selection process. Ganguly neither has strong backing, nor is he the media favourite like Sachin or Dravid, and that's why it's easiest to get rid of him. Now, the best thing for Dada to do is to make his bat talk for him. Actually, none of the seniors should be hastily dropped on account of a few poor performances.
