preferred over Hurghada for many peope. I really need to know as I only have a short holiday this time in Egypt and would like to decide which one to go to.

are there more activities for families (water parks, sightseeing, activities for kids,...etc.) ?

I just want to justify the travelling distance to Sharm which is 3-4 hours more than Hurghda for such a short visit.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Well there is nothing extremely different from Hurghada. I feel that they are the same. Both are amazing and beautiful. Both are in Sinai on the red sea. Nice snorkeling and diving. I believe that Sharm is a little bit famous than Hurghada. Maybe that's why you always hear about Sharm more. But believe me in both cities you will do the same activities: paraglide, banana ride, hot-air-ballooning, desert safari. DJ's and parties are all over the two cities.

I think it will depend on your own piece of mind. Like me, I live in the UAE for 2 and 1/2 years now and I prefer to stay in Abu Dhabi the Capital, rather than going to the famous city of Dubai. It just depends on your own judgment. Try Sharm now and think of Hurghada for your next visit and don't forget to pick up the good time to go there because sometime the cities become very hot in summer.

    Have a nice journey.

  2. i have been to both several times .

Sharm is a well designed city .

there is Naema Bay as the centre of attraction and fun .it has two streets in which cars arent allowed .

one is on the Bay and gives you the chance to walk along the water .

another is parallel , and has two sides with a mall , shops , restaurants , cafeterias , etc

there is a water park , Cleopatra .

you feel that an architect designed  the centre , then extensions were made for hotels to spring  along the sea .

    Hurghada  is not like that.

there is something of everything all over .

    there is no centre .

you will find a street with cafeterias and hotels hiding the sea .

    or

a shopping centre which exists somewhere for no obvious reason.

    the Germans love it .

they go for the sea , and arent seeking any other kind of fun.

they walk distances without getting tired .

it isnt bad , but not as good as Sharm

but there is El Guna on the outskirts of Hurghada .

it is a new place for lovers of quiet , the sea , wi bas !

people  who are known go there .

Naguib Sawiris has an island facing Movenpick there .

    a real island .

in both Sharm and Hurghada there is One Thousand Nights out of town .

it is a centre worth visiting .

it  has folklore shows and Egyptian historical shows  on horses , with many men and women performing in a respectable way.

i think Sharm is closer to Cairo than Hurghada .

but im not absolutely sure .

i want to add that in Sharm there are fantastic hotels that you can enter  and see beauty out of this world , ex, Four Seasons , Grand Hyatt , Movenpick .you can take a tour in these hotels without any commitments .

the beauty arises from the fact that the reception in Grand Hyatt is very high .when you go in you will find 5 or 6 levels that you can see in a panorama .there are lifts to take you to the level you choose .it is a mountain on which terraces and swimming pools , floors , cafeterias , etc are built to make us have different choices .

  3. Depends what do you like, Sharm is more for Honeymoon, Hurgada is turistic place, then too depends where you are because both are wondeful beaches.

  4. Well i have never been to Hurghada so i can't compare.

In sharm you have boat trips, snorkeling, quad biking, glass bottom boats.  There is a water park in Sharm very close to Naama bay it's called Cleo park which I'm sure as a family you will love.

Is it worth traveling an extra 4 hours i would say so it will be worth every minute.

Have a good time where ever you decide to go.
