And not feel bad for being g*y or short or tall or skinny or having a big nose or having small hands or etc.

Why is it that fat bashing is soooo accepted in American society when in reality some people can't help their weight?

Oh and dont say that being fat is a choice because for some people it really isn't.

  1. They shouldn't.  And what's more, people should MYOB.  Seriously.

I'm 100% debt free.  Should I get all superior and mock people who have credit card debt and poor credit ratings?  It was 100% their choice after all and I'm going to have to pay for their lack of planning when they declare bankruptcy or don't save enough for their retirement.

Obese people wear their excesses on their hips.  Other people's equally destructive habits are invisible.

Mock not, lest ye be mocked.

  2. I don't think that it is acceptable to "fat bash." Most people won't and those that do are just mean people who probably bullied everyone back in high school due to their own short-comings. I've never heard anyone be mean about someone's weight without being yelled at or told off. It's just rude and most people will not put up with it.

  3. Being fat is not always a result of only over eating. Sometime it's due to a thyroid disfunction. The thyroid controls your metabolism. There is more information about it at this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid Alot of other things can affect ones appetite including prediabetes which makes you feel hungry and thirsty all the time. Depression which sometimes causes people to over eat in an attempt to fill a void.  http://depressionandovereating.com/  Staying overweight is completely the individuals decision. That is true. However, becoming over weight isn't always. The eating patterns a parent teaches a child can be unhealthy, and hard to break. You only know what you are taught. My personal opinion is that one should not be judged period. No matter what their faults are. Who are we to judge?! I've always been judged for my weight. Those that weren't so shallow to shun me because I'm bigger, know that I am a good person. My external shell does not define me. People who judge a book by it's cover miss out on alot of good things. I also try not to be equal to them and judge them for being shallow. However, that doesn't mean that I have to agree with them or think it's right. Because I know it's not. I know that being overweight can cause alot of health issues. And if it gets to a point that my health is at risk. Then maybe that would motivate me to lose weight. But I've never wanted to change the way I look to get the acceptance of anyone. If you can't take the time to see me for who I am, then I don't want to know you anyways. That is where I stand.

  4. being fat is a 100% choice,you won't gain weight if you don't eat

i wouldn't call it a choice but you do it to yourself

  5. Because the American culture is superficial and material.

We look at success at being beautiful, famous and rich.

We don't value intelligence, education or scientific achievement like other countries do.  It's all about looks, fame and fortune.

  6. Obesity is most of the time a choice. This nation is fat because so many people keep making excuses.

  7. First I am going to say that I am a plus size female. Next I do believe that the average person has a lot of control over what they consume, so in some ways they are making a choice. Then there are the people who don't over eat but they don't do anything else either (my category). I am WAY more sedentary then I should be, but I know this and make no excuses. I don't over eat but if I moved more I'd be skinnier, I know it. I also don't have a problem with my weight and don't feel bad. I don't have a self esteem issue like many of my plus size brethren.

Is it wrong for people to be prejudiced? Of course it is, but we in this country make far to many allowances for the choices of other people. Your own individual health is your own choice yes, but then that choice affects others in tangible ways - like increased health care costs - for everyone. it just is what it is.

  8. For the people that have no control over it due to medical or hereditary reasons, they should not feel bad. It is sad how society ridicules obese people.

  9. Why should someone feel bad for being obese? Well, except for medical reasons, which are not all that common, you increase health risks, decrease your life span, and in some cases are not able to spend quality time with children due to physical limitations of being obese.

Fat bashing? I dont condone it but some of it may stem from health costs to the taxpayers. I know when Im surrounded on either side by two people that are 250 lbs plus on an airplane it impacts my comfort. But as far as bashing.. hmmmm

Being fat is a choice for 90% of those who are obese. Sorry, but if you examine their grocery cart you are going to see the worst possible food choices..and not much activity in their day...

Edit- You asked why it is so accepted..I offered some possible reasons. However I want to make it clear I don't fat bash, as you call it nor do I condone it.

  10. Just to tell you, people are what they are. They don't deserve to be treated different just because they look or act different.

  11. I saw people making fun of people's physical attributes all the times. People just do bashing of others all the time whatever they come up with. They have no sense of humor so they are sticking with easily visible targets.

You are right that being fat seems like the greatest curse these days. Still time like these where physical beauty overpowers other qualities, I do not know how to change people's mind set.  The only thing which we can change is, instead of feeling guilty over how we are not fit in beauty scale; we should pity these people with limited grey cell.

  12. some of us self medicate with food instead of drugs or alcohol.  If you feel you've been repeatedly rejected by society/loved ones/friends/etc... you turn to something to give comfort.  Food doesn't judge you, it's always there etc....  Just like there are organizations for alcoholics, gamblers and drug addicts there are organizations for those who use food as their escape.  Don't judge or condemn them but feel sorry for them.  It's a hard existence and until  a person has walked in those shoes they shouldn't assume that they know what it's like.

  13. one isnt born fat (well, technically baby fat... but whatever).  One eats in excess and doesnt exercise.  or one exercises but not enough to burn the amount of food that they take in.

Bottom line- if you want to eat alot of food cause you love food... you gotta work out hard.

If you wanna not work out, then you gotta know you cant eat alot of food, or youll get fat.

Its not like being g*y, or having black skin, or being born with a big nose... it IS a lifestyle choice.  I have known MANY fat people that have said, "you know what, thats enough I hate the way I look"- and they started working out hard and eating right... and they lost weight.

Some never got skinny like models, some stayed 20 lbs over weight.. but they all lost significant amounts of weight by CHOOSING to exercise and eat better.

  14. Fat bashing is not only accepted it is encouraged. I have been up and down most of my life and it is unreal how differently I am treated. Today I am very fat and most people look past me and ignore me. I've gotten used to it but it still bothers me, I just cannot get motivated to lose the weight like I did in the past. I do believe for the majority of fatties it is a choice, I know for a fact I could get thin again but I'm just too lazy to do it.
