Why Silva vs Irvin?

Why in the world are they matching up Anderson Silva with a cripple like James Irvin? Someone please clue me in here. It just doesnt make sense...will anyone buy this pay for view show? Id rather watch reruns of the Honeymooners.

Silva vs. Irvin seems like a mismatch to me. That's just my opinion. However, the card was rather hastily thrown together in an effort to steal publicity and viewers from Affliction's Banned card which will also air Saturday night.

Dana White is a shrewd businessman. Most of the world, most of the MMA community agrees that Fedor Emelianenko is the hands down best MMA fighter out there. His only pound for pound competition being Anderson Silva. So, a new organization forms, with money behind it, they acquire six of the top ten heavyweights in the world of mixed martial arts and their show starts to generate buzz. At first the UFC isn't threatened until the numbers start coming in. Ticket sales for Affliction are through the roof and the internet buzz can't be ignored. From a business stand point, the UFC will lose ground if they let another organization steal the spotlight. Especially when so many former UFC fighers are now fighing for the competition. (Four former UFC champions are fighting at Affliction Banned.) So what do they do? They pull out their ace in the hole, the UFC's best pound for pounder in an effort to steal publicity and viewers from Affliction.

The whole thing was thrown together willy nilly, and don't get me wrong, I'm the biggest Anderson Silva fan out there, but this card isn't worth missing the AMAZING card Affliction has put together.

First off, it is free on Spike TV. James Irvin is no pushover in the 205 division. Do you really want Anderson Silva to fight Chuck Liddell or Wanderlei Silva in his 205 lb debut? He could win but could also be beaten easily. It is a test to see if he can fight bigger guys.  They want to see if he has what it takes to compete in a higher division.

its free.  affliction is having a pay per view event the same night so ufc came up with some quick competition and is putting it on free on spike tv.  they probably had to come up with some fighters quick.  and you never know what happens in a fight.  everyone said gsp would maul serra the first time too and look what happened.

You are kidding right?  The has jump up 20lbs to fight.  Should he jump right in to Wanderleigh?  Rampage?  Liddel?

actually i really like irvin and i think he has a good punchers chance watch some of his knockouts some of them in like 8 seconds with alexander
